Pure Heart Staffing is partnering with Adams Associates to fill a Center Mental Health Consultant (CMHC) role at the Sacramento Job Corps Center, a federally funded residential training program serving 16–24 year-olds working toward their high-school equivalency and career training. We're looking for a fully licensed LCSW or Licensed Psychologist (PhD/PsyD) in California (LMFTs are not accepted) to join a small, collaborative health & wellness team.
What the role actually looks like day-to-day
- Short-term, solution-focused counseling (think EAP-style, typically 3–6 sessions) using DBT, CBT, mindfulness, and other evidence-based modalities. Long-term/weekly therapy is referred out to community partners — this is crisis stabilization and skill-building, not ongoing therapy.
- AFRs (Applicant File Reviews) and Medical Separations for incoming and current students — currently running ~20 at a time with a 15-day turnaround window. Training videos from Dr. Warner (another Adams CMHC) are available for ramp-up.
- Crisis response, safety planning, and coordination with the on-site nursing team.
- Documentation is paper-based (no EHR) — services are free to students (no billing, no insurance credentialing headaches).
- Group work and psychoeducation as needed.
Who you'll work with
- MJ De La Cruz, RN — Health & Wellness Manager (your direct on-site partner)
- Another Mental Health CMHC (peer on the mental health side) and a clinical intern
- RN, LVN, Medical Clerk, and a TEAP (Trainee Employee Assistance Program) specialist
What we need from you
- Active California license: LCSW or Licensed Psychologist (PhD/PsyD)
- Comfortable working with the 16–24 population — residential setting, trauma-informed, DBT or CBT foundation preferred
- Able to be fully on-site in Sacramento (95832)
- Clean background — this is a federal contract, so a DOL-level background check is standard
What makes this role unusual (in a good way)
- No billing. Federally funded through ~2027, so you're not fighting insurance or tracking productivity hours for reimbursement.
- Short-term model. Closer to EAP work than traditional private practice — you help the student get stable and build skills, then hand off long-term care to community providers.
- Small team, real impact. You're one of two CMHCs serving a residential youth population with real, immediate needs. The work matters.
- Contractor-backed. Adams Associates is the federal contractor — Pure Heart is handling the search, but your employer of record will be Adams once you're placed.
To talk details, shoot a quick text to Nate at (916) 796-4020 — fastest way to get your questions answered (pay, schedule, on-site logistics) and figure out if the role is the right fit.
Application questions
- Have you provided clinical services to adolescents or young adults (ages 16–24)?
- Do you have an active California license as an LCSW or Licensed Psychologist (PhD/PsyD)? Which one/s?
