About the job Marine Safety Officer

  • Review vessel recommendations by the Class Society and Marina Authorities are complied / rectified. Report the status of recommendations to the Quality Safety Manager and/or inform the In-charge Ship Superintendent for compliance.
  • Conduct inspection / assessment on the extent of damage if there is any on the reported vessel incident/accident.
  • Carry out In-port safety inspection of the vessel and ensure all navigational and safety equipment [Life saving and Fire Fighting equipment] are complied with the authority and class society regulations.
  • Assist DP/QSM, Port Captain and/or CSO in conducting emergency drills exercises occasionally to verify the shipboard crews performance.
  • Regular monitoring and distribution (Fleet Wide) of MARINA Memorandum Circulars / Advisory; Philippine Coast Guard (PCG); Office for Transportation Security (OTS-DOTr); Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
  • Carry out Internal Audit on board as directed by the superior and to assist the shipboard Master during External Audit by the MARINA.
  • Review and verify the SMS documents, Special Instructions, Non-Conformity and Memorandums are complied with and implemented accordingly. See Chapter 03.
  • Stops any work (hot work) in which he reasonably believes may cause serious accident and informs the Ship Superintendent, Master and/or ship duty officer.
  • Review the safety and pollution prevention aspects of the operation of the ships during safety inspection.
  • Performing other duties, which may be assigned by the superiors

Qualifications:

  • Preferably B.S. Marine Engineering or any Engineering Course Graduate / B. S. Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering licensed as Engineer.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in related profession or any Shipping Companies
  • Knowledgeable with Maritime Regulations and Standards and Safety Management System
