The Role
We are seeking an exceptional and inspiring Deputy Headteacher to support the Headteacher in providing strategic leadership and management across the school. This is a key role for an ambitious leader who is passionate about driving standards, developing staff, and ensuring every pupil achieves their full potential.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the school's vision, leading on key whole-school priorities, and ensuring excellence in teaching, learning, and outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
- Support the Headteacher in the strategic leadership and day-to-day management of the school
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the School Improvement Plan
- Lead on specific whole-school priorities (e.g. curriculum, behaviour, safeguarding, or outcomes)
- Deputise for the Headteacher when required
Teaching & Learning
- Drive high standards of teaching and learning across the school
- Lead and support staff development, including coaching and performance management
- Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching through observations, data analysis, and feedback
- Promote innovative and evidence-based teaching practices
Pupil Outcomes
- Ensure strong academic progress and attainment for all pupils
- Use data effectively to identify areas for improvement and implement strategies
- Champion inclusion and ensure all pupils, including those with SEND, are supported
Pastoral & Behaviour
- Promote a positive school culture with high expectations for behaviour and conduct
- Oversee behaviour systems and ensure consistency across the school
- Support safeguarding and pupil wellbeing at all times
Staff & Community
- Inspire, motivate, and support staff across all levels
- Build strong relationships with parents, governors, and the wider community
- Contribute to recruitment, retention, and development of staff
Person Specification
Essential
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Proven leadership experience at senior or middle leadership level
- Strong track record of improving teaching and learning outcomes
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to lead, inspire, and manage teams effectively
- Deep understanding of curriculum, assessment, and school improvement
Desirable
- National Professional Qualification (e.g. NPQH/NPQSL)
- Experience in a similar Deputy Headteacher or Assistant Headteacher role
- Experience leading whole-school initiatives or change programmes
