Position Summary
The Materials Management Associate is responsible for supporting the safe and efficient operation of the hospital Nutrition Room through the storage, preparation, handling, and distribution of breast milk and infant formula. This role plays a critical part in maintaining product integrity, ensuring compliance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and infection prevention standards, and supporting optimal patient care.
The Materials Management Associate works collaboratively with nursing, clinical nutrition, and other healthcare team members to ensure timely and accurate delivery of prepared nutritional products for neonatal and pediatric patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive, verify, label, store, and organize expressed breast milk and infant formula according to established hospital policies and procedures.
- Prepare breast milk and formula products accurately and safely following physician orders, dietary requirements, and hospital guidelines.
- Ensure proper handling, thawing, fortification, and preparation of nutritional products while maintaining strict quality and safety standards.
- Track expiration dates and storage times to ensure product integrity and patient safety.
- Maintain accurate documentation and records related to breast milk and formula preparation and distribution.
- Monitor inventory levels of breast milk storage supplies, infant formula, feeding supplies, and other nutrition room materials.
- Stock, organize, and replenish nutrition room inventory to ensure adequate supplies are available.
- Rotate stock according to established inventory management practices.
- Report supply shortages, equipment issues, or inventory discrepancies to leadership.
- Prepare products for delivery and ensure timely distribution to patient care units.
- Verify patient information and product labeling prior to delivery.
- Maintain chain-of-custody procedures and ensure all prepared products reach the correct patient care area safely and efficiently.
- Collaborate with nursing staff regarding nutritional product requests and deliveries.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience in healthcare, materials management, nutrition services, food service, inventory control, or related field preferred.
- Experience handling breast milk, infant formula, or nutritional products in a healthcare setting is an asset.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull supplies and equipment within established safety guidelines.
- Ability to work in refrigerated storage areas as required.
- Manual dexterity sufficient for labeling, preparing, and handling nutritional products safely.
