Content Writer

Role purpose

Research, draft and refine clear, engaging and audience-appropriate content for learning resources, scripts, digital courses and supporting materials under the direction of a Learning Designer or educational lead.

Key responsibilities

  • Draft learning-resource content from approved source materials, outlines and briefs.
  • Rewrite complex information in clear, plain English.
  • Develop examples, scenarios, case studies, explanatory content and reflective prompts.
  • Draft narration, dialogue, on-screen text and supporting scripts.
  • Maintain the intended meaning and technical accuracy of source content.
  • Apply the required tone, terminology, style guide and Australian English conventions.
  • Structure content for readability, accessibility and digital presentation.
  • Verify factual statements against approved sources and maintain source records.
  • Incorporate SME, client, editorial and Learning Designer feedback.
  • Conduct spelling, grammar, consistency and basic accuracy checks.
  • Identify unsupported claims, source gaps or ambiguous instructions for escalation.
  • Maintain organised, version-controlled source documents.

Essential requirements

  • Excellent written English and demonstrated professional writing experience.
  • Strong plain-language writing and editing capability.
  • Ability to synthesise information from multiple approved sources.
  • Ability to adapt writing for different audiences and literacy levels.
  • Experience writing structured digital or educational content.
  • Strong research, fact-checking and source-management practices.
  • Ability to follow detailed briefs, templates and style guides.
  • High attention to accuracy, consistency and terminology.
  • Ability to accept and apply detailed editorial feedback.

Desirable requirements

  • Experience writing for adult learning, VET, government or workplace education.
  • Experience writing video, animation or voice-over scripts.
  • Understanding of accessibility and inclusive language.
  • Experience writing scenarios, interactions and formative questions.
  • Familiarity with learning-design storyboards.
  • Experience using approved AI tools with appropriate fact-checking, disclosure and human oversight.
