Job Summary:
The Technical Estimator will be responsible for preparing and maintaining dimensional drawings, 2D simulations, and models, as well as assisting with the technical and administrative aspects of project management. This role requires a deep understanding of tooling capabilities, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with customers and internal teams. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring that customer requirements are met through accurate design, effective programming, and efficient manufacturing solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Dimensional Drawings & Modelling:
- Prepare detailed dimensional drawings from customer and tender drawings.
- Responsible for creating 2D simulations, programming, and modelling to assess tooling capabilities.
- Revise and update existing drawings as required to reflect changes in design or production requirements.
- Documentation & Registers:
- Keep and maintain an up-to-date drawing register.
- Assist with drawing updates and ensure all documentation is accurate and accessible.
- Project Estimation & Quotation:
- Assist Customer Service Officers (CSOs) and customers with drawing requirements and quote preparation.
- Prepare, estimate, and submit quotations to customers, including project-specific information such as material prices, outsourcing costs, etc.
- Programming & Production:
- Program press brakes with precision, ensuring that operators do not need to make any amendments.
- Liaise with customers and the business development team to ensure that designs meet customer requirements.
- Source components from suppliers as needed.
- Order Management & Bill of Materials:
- Win and enter orders as required, ensuring accuracy in project management systems.
- Prepare detailed bills of materials (BOM) for projects, ensuring all materials and components are accounted for.
- Quality & Manufacturing Solutions:
- Develop manufacturing solutions that utilize the supply chain to meet customer needs and expectations.
- Understand and convey the quality requirements of the customer clearly to the production team through written instructions and drawings.
- Value Addition:
- Continually seek opportunities to add value to Unique Laser and its clients through innovative solutions, process improvements, and efficient project management.
Qualifications:
- Extensive experience in 3D drafting within a manufacturing environment, particularly using 3D modeling software such as Inventor.
- Proficient in AutoCAD, with significant experience in quoting and estimating within a sheet metal environment.
- Skilled in CNC Brake Press programming and capable of producing accurate shop drawings for manufacturability.
- Adept at programming Press Brakes without the need for operator amendments.
- Expertise in design for manufacturing processes, with a strong background in laser cutting and fabrication processes.
- Ability to estimate fabrication process times and develop efficient manufacturing solutions.
- Proficient in using 3D design tools (Inventor) and has a sound understanding of quality management systems.
- Competent with MS Office and other computer software relevant to manufacturing engineering.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work both independently and within a team.
- Strong communication skills, capable of engaging effectively at all organizational levels.
- Proven ability to deliver exceptional customer service and negotiate effectively.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the flexibility to adapt to changing work environments.
