Maternal Nutrition is the cornerstone for maternal and child health, requiring focused attention to prevent stunting and wasting among children. However, maternal nutrition indicators for women of reproductive age (WRA) in the country are alarming, with 14.4% underweight, 24% overweight, 13.8% obese, 41.7% anemic, and 22.4% experiencing Vitamin A deficiency. These issues highlight the pressing need for improvement in maternal nutrition outcomes. The Government of Pakistan Maternal Nutrition Strategy (PMNS) 2022, emphasizes the critical role of Health Care Providers (HCPs) and Frontline Health Workers (FHWs), both in the public and private health sectors, as they play a pivotal role in reaching, engaging, and influencing women and their immediate families to promote essential health and nutrition practices.

The Maternal Nutrition Campaign (NourishMaa) aligns with the PMNS 2022 and is a collaborative effort between Nutrition International (NI), the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination (MoNHSR&C), Provincial Departments of Health (DoH), and key stakeholders such as the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) and the Society of Obstetrics and Gynecologists Pakistan (SOGP). The Campaign aims to enhance the knowledge and capacity of HCPs and FHWs in maternal nutrition through various channels, including interpersonal communication (IPC), targeted media, and training etc. By doing so, the campaign supports the government's efforts to improve maternal nutrition indicators in the country.

Position Title:Provincial Interpersonal Communication Coordinator, also referred to as Field Coordinator

Location Position No. 1: Bahawalpur, Larkana and Kambar Shahdadkot

Reports to/Position Title: National Campaign Manager, Maternal Nutrition Campaign

2. Role Purpose:

The key role of the position is to take lead in the implementation of maternal nutrition campaign (NourishMaa) activities, which include management and coordination of field activities, oversee the work of District Nutrition Officers at the targeted districts as per campaign plans, under the guidance and leadership of National Manager, Maternal Nutrition Campaign

Provincial IPC Coordinator / Field Coordinator will implement the various components of the campaign including interpersonal communication, targeted media campaign, trainings of HCPs and FHWs, and other relevant activities, in close coordination with the Provincial and District Departments of Health, PPHI, professional medical associations and other key stakeholders.

3. Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the guidance and supervision of the National Campaign Manager, the specific tasks of the position will include:

Project Development and Planning

  1. Support National Campaign Manager and Medical Marketing Specialist in the development of district-wise implementation plans of trainings, IPC and media components.
  2. Develop and monitor weekly and monthly plans for the District Nutrition Officers related to IPC sensitization visits with HCPs and FHWs
  3. Lead the development of awareness events plan (conferences, seminars, meetings and trainings) in consultation with NI, District Health Department and Professional Medical Associations.

Project Implementation and Management

  1. Lead and manage the implementation of field level activities with DoH, HCPs/FHWs and Medical Associations.
  2. Manage an updated database of public and private HCPs and FHWs in their target area
  3. Supervise IPC sensitization visits carried out by DNOs, and conduct IPC visits where and when assigned by the management and or trouble shooting visits
  4. Conduct CME trainings for HCPs, FHWs trainings, sensitization seminars, conferences, international days, special talks in events related to maternal nutrition
  5. Coordinate with assigned master trainers for CME training sessions at the target districts. Ensure full participation in the trainings, quality assurance, gathering evaluation and reporting.
  6. Maintain database of the trained HCPs and FHWs.
  7. Supervise knowledge tools and clinic branding at the health facilities, clinics and health houses.
  8. Mobilize and motivate HCPs and FHWs for integrating maternal nutrition services in their regular service delivery where required.
  9. Lead and oversee the implementation of innovative marketing skills to promote maternal nutrition concepts to healthcare providers and frontline health workers.
  10. Ensure engagement of HCPs, FHWs and Key Opinion leaders in the campaign activities
  11. Establish a real time feedback mechanism from HCPs & FHWs to the project management regarding campaign activities
  12. Identify Maternal Nutrition Champions among HCPs and FHWs, potential contenders for leader award

Monitoring and Reporting

  1. Facilitate monitoring and supervisory visits in the field conducted by the Government, NI and donors etc.
  2. Lead the development and submission of project updates for program management team as per agreed upon frequency
  3. Ensure the collection and submission of daily report
  4. Lead the development of event reports.
  5. Take lead on the development of success stories, case studies and knowledge generation at the targeted districts.
  6. Submit monthly progress report to PEOPLE for further sharing with Nutrition International and other relevant stakeholders.
  7. Provide periodic data for the monitoring and reporting purposes to the NI team as and when required.
  8. Lead in conducting field monitoring, data collection and any relevant tasks necessary to support monitoring and reporting activities.

4. Qualification, Experience and Skills:

  • Masters Degree in nutrition, food science/technology, public health or any other relevant qualifications.
  • At least 7 years of experience with nutrition/health or development programs in a coordination/management role,
  • Preferred skills such as project management, training and development, counselling, advocacy for health and nutrition, event management, media management, service marketing and development communications for a national or international organization.
  • Knowledge of government healthcare systems and policies.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills along with influential presentation, detailing and marketing skills.
  • Experience in healthcare mapping, capacity building, maternal nutrition advocacy, and non-product marketing.
  • Fluency in English, both spoken and written, is a prerequisite. Knowledge of other languages spoken in field areas would be an asset
  • Self-initiator, ability to work under minimal supervision and under pressure
  • Competent IT skills, i.e. MS Word, MS Excel, Kobo toolbox, Outlook and Power Point
