The Social Media Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating SDPIs social media strategy to enhance its visibility, outreach, and engagement across digital platforms. The role supports the institutes mission of research-based policy advocacy and knowledge dissemination by leveraging the power of digital storytelling and data-driven engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Planning and Execution
- Design and execute a comprehensive, year-round social media strategy aligned with SDPIs communication and institutional goals.
- Tailor communication approaches for different platforms (X/Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Threads, etc.).
- Coordinate digital campaigns for SDPI flagship events such as the Sustainable Development Conference (SDC), Budget Watch, and COP briefings.
- Content Creation and Curation
- Draft, edit, and publish original content including policy recommendations, event coverage, summary of op-eds, infographics, short videos, and institutional updates.
- Work closely with researchers and Policy Outreach team to translate technical material into accessible, engaging language for diverse audiences.
- Curate and repurpose archival content to maintain a consistent presence and institutional memory online.
- Community Engagement and Brand Management
- Monitor and manage audience interactions, ensuring timely responses to public queries and comments in a professional manner.
- Track trends, hashtags, and digital discourse to position SDPI as a thought leader in sustainable development and public policy.
- Analytics and Reporting
- Use platform analytics and third-party tools (e.g., Meta Insights, X Analytics, Google Analytics, Hootsuite) to measure performance.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly reports on KPIs such as reach, impressions, engagement, follower growth, and content performance.
- Adjust strategy and content based on data insights and stakeholder feedback.
- Collaboration and Coordination
- Work with the SDPI Policy Outreach team, SDTV team, researchers, and administrative units to coordinate communication strategies and campaigns.
- Liaise with media houses, influencers, development partners, and public-sector digital communication teams when required.
- Support training sessions for SDPI staff and interns on effective use of social media for policy advocacy.
Required Skill Set and Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Communications, Digital Media, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field.
- Additional certifications in digital marketing, social media management, or data analytics will be an advantage.
Experience:
- At least 3-5 years of professional experience managing social media accounts for think tanks, development organizations, or media outlets.
- Proven track record of growing audience engagement and running targeted digital campaigns.
- Digital platforms that you have managed/managing currently will be evidence of your experience
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in using social media platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn, X/Twitter, Instagram, YouTube) and management tools (e.g., Buffer, Sprout Social, Hootsuite).
- Strong command of graphic design software (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) and basic video editing tools (CapCut, Adobe Premiere Rush).
- Familiarity with SEO, hashtag strategies, and A/B testing of posts.
Communication and Soft Skills:
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills in English. (Proficiency in Urdu is a plus.)
- Ability to adapt tone and messaging to diverse audiences including policymakers, academics, youth, media, and civil society.
- Strong interpersonal and coordination skills with the ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple stakeholders.
