Minimum Qualification and Experience:

  • Minimum bachelors degree in education, health, nutrition, children psychology and relevant fields.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in humanitarian and development sector, with a track record of designing and implementing high-quality and evidence-based programs on Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Development, parental and community engagement, parenting education, and psychosocial and mental health support for caregivers and children.
  • Expertise in adult learning methodologies and facilitation techniques, with the ability to engage and empower diverse groups of caregivers.
  • Deep understanding of the cultural and social context in Afghanistan, with sensitivity to local customs, traditions, and challenges faced by community members.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish trust and rapport with caregivers from varying backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in monitoring and evaluation, with the capacity to interpret data and utilize findings for program improvement.
  • Fluency in local languages (Dari/Pashto) and proficiency in English is a must.
  • Knowledge of early childhood development and early education and gender issues in Afghanistan is an advantage.
  • To be the resident of the relevant province and district where the job is required.

TASKS to be Performed:

  • ECE learning environment improvement: in close collaboration with Client operation and supplies team as well as ECE teachers, improve ECE learning environments through establishment of learning interest areas and corners within classroom settings and provision of basic water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) materials in ECE centers.
  • Development of ECE curricula, modules and lesson plans: working with an international consultant, design and develop a comprehensive and culturally sensitive ECE curricula, modules and lesson plans focusing on play based methodologies, climate change and adaptation, and gender responsiveness, creating low cost no cost materials, class routine, etc., tailored to the needs and context of ECE teachers in Afghanistan.
  • Participation at Training of Trainers (ToT): Participate in training of trainers (ToT) sessions arranged by the international consultant in Kabul.
  • Facilitation of Training Sessions: drawing upon learnings from the ToT sessions, conduct engaging and informative training sessions to ECE teachers and ECE committees, utilizing interactive techniques and adult learning methodologies to ensure effective knowledge transfer and skill development.
  • Perform Classroom Observations: undertake classroom observations to provide personalized support and guidance to ECE teachers, addressing specific challenges and reinforcing ECE play based methodologies and practices within the class environment.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: contribute to baseline and endline surveys through data collection from the fields and data entry to relevant Client M&E tools and dashboards. Field test relevant technical modules and tools and provide feedback on its implementation effectiveness. Submit weekly/monthly reports outlining project progress, achievements, challenges, and recommendations. Participate in weekly/monthly meetings to discuss project progress.
  • Collaboration and Networking: foster partnerships with relevant stakeholders, including local authorities, community leaders, and other organizations working in the field of early childhood education fields.

  • Compliance with Environmental and Social Safeguarding (ESS): The master trainers should ensure that the project Environmental and Social Safeguards (ESS) requirements are considered in training, visiting the ECE classes and capacity building, and all associated activities. The incumbent should also support the ECE workforce with cascading ESS requirements on the ground mandated by Client including Grievance Redressal Mechanism (GRM) awareness, Code of Conduct (CoC) adherence, and safe learning environments.
