Head of Rolling Mill

Our client is recruiting for a Head of Rolling Mill to provide end-to-end technical leadership for TMT and wire rod production operations. This role requires an expert with deep hands-on knowledge of rolling mill machinery, process optimization, metallurgical parameters, automation systems, and equipment revamping. The ideal candidate will drive technology upgrades, ensure high-precision production, and maintain robust operational reliability while leading a technically strong team.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the complete technical revamping and modernization of the existing rolling mill.
• Oversee the installation, commissioning, and integration of a new wire rod mill.
• Evaluate and select advanced technologies, automation systems, and control solutions (e.g., PLCs, drives, SCADA).
• Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring technical issues and drive engineering improvements.
• Oversee day-to-day technical operations to ensure optimal rolling parameters, temperature control, and process stability for TMT and wire rod production.
• Develop and optimize production schedules, machine settings, pass designs, roll profiles, and mill speed coordination.
• Implement best-in-class rolling practices to enhance yield, reduce cobbles, and improve dimensional accuracy.
• Ensure strict compliance with metallurgical specifications, mechanical properties, heat treatment, and quenching processes.
• Implement robust quality control systems, online measurement tools, and testing protocols.
• Analyze product deviations and introduce corrective and preventive actions to maintain high-quality outputs.
• Lead, coach, and technically mentor engineers, shift in-charge personnel, technicians, and operators.
• Conduct skill enhancement programs on equipment handling, process control, and troubleshooting.
• Oversee preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of rolling mill equipment (stands, guides, shears, motors, gearboxes, pinch rolls, cooling systems).
• Collaborate with maintenance teams to ensure high uptime, minimal breakdowns, and long equipment life.
• Review lubrication systems, wear mechanisms, roll change procedures, and alignment practices.
• Enforce safety standards, conduct risk assessments, and ensure adherence to statutory and industry regulations.
• Drive continuous improvement projects focusing on energy efficiency, wastage reduction, and cost optimization.
• Keep up-to-date with global rolling mill technological advancements and integrate relevant improvements.

Personal Attributes: 

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or related discipline.
• 10+ years of technical experience in a rolling mill, with minimum 10 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
• Expert knowledge of TMT & wire rod rolling processes, mill stands, pass design, reheating furnace parameters, cooling beds, and automation systems.
• Strong analytical and hands-on troubleshooting skills with complex mill equipment.
• Demonstrated leadership capability with strong decision-making and technical communication skills.
• Comprehensive understanding of safety norms, quality standards, and metallurgical requirements.
• 15–20 Years Experience, with strong technical & engineering background required.
