About the job Stores Keeper

The Stores Keeper is responsible for the efficient receipt, storage, control, issuance, and record-keeping of all materials, consumables, tools, engineering spares, and equipment within the Company's stores and warehouse facilities.

The incumbent plays a critical role in ensuring inventory accuracy, safeguarding company assets, maintaining stock availability, and supporting uninterrupted production and maintenance operations within the steel manufacturing plant.

Receiving and Inspection of Goods

  • Receive incoming materials, equipment, tools, consumables, and spare parts.
  • Verify deliveries against purchase orders, delivery notes, and invoices.
  • Inspect goods for quantity, quality, and damage.
  • Report discrepancies, shortages, or damaged goods immediately.
  • Ensure all received stock is accurately recorded and processed.

Stock Control and Inventory Management

  • Maintain accurate inventory records and stock balances.
  • Monitor stock levels and report low-stock items.
  • Assist with stock counts, cycle counts, and annual stock-taking exercises.
  • Ensure stock is correctly identified, labelled, and stored.
  • Record all stock movements accurately within the inventory management system.
  • Assist with inventory reconciliation and variance investigations.

Issuing of Materials

  • Issue materials, tools, consumables, and spare parts in accordance with authorised requisitions.
  • Ensure all stock issues are properly documented.
  • Verify that only authorised personnel receive inventory items.
  • Maintain records of all stock issued and returned.

Warehouse and Stores Housekeeping

  • Maintain clean, organised, and safe storage areas.
  • Ensure materials are stored in designated locations.
  • Apply proper storage practices to prevent damage or deterioration.
  • Maintain orderly shelving, racking, and bin locations.
  • Support implementation of 5S and housekeeping standards.

Materials Handling

  • Load, unload, move, and stack materials safely.
  • Operate material handling equipment where authorised and licensed.
  • Ensure safe handling of heavy, hazardous, or sensitive materials.
  • Follow company procedures regarding storage and transportation of goods.

Health, Safety and Environmental Compliance

  • Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and company safety procedures.
  • Wear prescribed Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions.
  • Ensure safe storage of hazardous materials.
  • Participate in safety meetings and training programmes.
  • Promote environmental compliance and waste management practices.

Administration and Record Keeping

  • Maintain accurate records of receipts, issues, returns, and transfers.
  • Complete stores documentation accurately and timeously.
  • Assist with preparation of inventory reports.
  • Maintain filing systems for stores documentation.
  • Support internal and external audit requirements.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric).
  • Certificate in Stores and Inventory Control.
  • Certificate in Warehouse Management.
  • Forklift Licence (advantageous).
  • Minimum 2–3 years' experience in a stores, warehouse, or inventory control environment.
  • Experience within a manufacturing, engineering, mining, or steel production environment will be advantageous.
  • Experience working with inventory management systems and stock control procedures.
