Stores Keeper
About the job Stores Keeper
The Stores Keeper is responsible for the efficient receipt, storage, control, issuance, and record-keeping of all materials, consumables, tools, engineering spares, and equipment within the Company's stores and warehouse facilities.
The incumbent plays a critical role in ensuring inventory accuracy, safeguarding company assets, maintaining stock availability, and supporting uninterrupted production and maintenance operations within the steel manufacturing plant.
Receiving and Inspection of Goods
- Receive incoming materials, equipment, tools, consumables, and spare parts.
- Verify deliveries against purchase orders, delivery notes, and invoices.
- Inspect goods for quantity, quality, and damage.
- Report discrepancies, shortages, or damaged goods immediately.
- Ensure all received stock is accurately recorded and processed.
Stock Control and Inventory Management
- Maintain accurate inventory records and stock balances.
- Monitor stock levels and report low-stock items.
- Assist with stock counts, cycle counts, and annual stock-taking exercises.
- Ensure stock is correctly identified, labelled, and stored.
- Record all stock movements accurately within the inventory management system.
- Assist with inventory reconciliation and variance investigations.
Issuing of Materials
- Issue materials, tools, consumables, and spare parts in accordance with authorised requisitions.
- Ensure all stock issues are properly documented.
- Verify that only authorised personnel receive inventory items.
- Maintain records of all stock issued and returned.
Warehouse and Stores Housekeeping
- Maintain clean, organised, and safe storage areas.
- Ensure materials are stored in designated locations.
- Apply proper storage practices to prevent damage or deterioration.
- Maintain orderly shelving, racking, and bin locations.
- Support implementation of 5S and housekeeping standards.
Materials Handling
- Load, unload, move, and stack materials safely.
- Operate material handling equipment where authorised and licensed.
- Ensure safe handling of heavy, hazardous, or sensitive materials.
- Follow company procedures regarding storage and transportation of goods.
Health, Safety and Environmental Compliance
- Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and company safety procedures.
- Wear prescribed Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Identify and report unsafe conditions.
- Ensure safe storage of hazardous materials.
- Participate in safety meetings and training programmes.
- Promote environmental compliance and waste management practices.
Administration and Record Keeping
- Maintain accurate records of receipts, issues, returns, and transfers.
- Complete stores documentation accurately and timeously.
- Assist with preparation of inventory reports.
- Maintain filing systems for stores documentation.
- Support internal and external audit requirements.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- Certificate in Stores and Inventory Control.
- Certificate in Warehouse Management.
- Forklift Licence (advantageous).
- Minimum 2–3 years' experience in a stores, warehouse, or inventory control environment.
- Experience within a manufacturing, engineering, mining, or steel production environment will be advantageous.
- Experience working with inventory management systems and stock control procedures.
