About the job Steward

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Operate commercial dishwashing equipment to clean and sanitize dishes, utensils, and other kitchen equipment. Ensure all items are thoroughly cleaned and stored appropriately. Hand wash items as needed. Maintain a clean and organized dishwashing area.
  2. Clean and sanitize kitchen surfaces, floors, walls, and equipment. Follow established cleaning procedures and schedules. Empty and clean trash receptacles regularly. Assist with maintaining a clean and orderly kitchen environment.
  3.  Ensure proper care, cleaning, and storage of kitchen equipment, such as pots, pans, trays, and utensils. Report any damaged or malfunctioning equipment to the supervisor. 
  4. Support kitchen staff in basic food preparation tasks, such as peeling, chopping, and cleaning vegetables, and portioning ingredients. 
  5. Adhere to health and safety regulations and sanitation standards in the kitchen and food service areas. Follow proper cleaning and sanitization procedures to ensure a hygienic environment. Assist in monitoring and maintaining records related to food safety and sanitation.
  6. Sort and dispose of kitchen waste in designated recycling and composting bins. 
  7. Collaborate with kitchen staff and other team members to ensure effective communication and coordination of duties. 
  8. Adhere to safety protocols and report any hazards or incidents to the supervisor.

Qualifications:

  1. Previous experience as a steward or in a similar role is preferred but not required.
  2. Basic understanding of kitchen operations and equipment.
  3. Strong attention to detail and cleanliness.
  4. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  5. Physical stamina and the ability to perform repetitive tasks.
  6. Good communication and teamwork skills.
  7. Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations is an advantage.
  8. Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays.
