Job Summary:
The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining financial records, performing various accounting tasks, and supporting the accounting department in financial reporting and analysis. This role ensures the accurate and timely recording of financial transactions, assists with the month-end close process, and helps maintain compliance with company policies and accounting regulations. The Staff Accountant plays a key role in maintaining the integrity of financial information and supporting business operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- General Accounting:
- Prepare and post journal entries to ensure all business transactions are recorded accurately.
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements and reports, ensuring their accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Reconcile bank statements and investigate discrepancies between accounts.
- Accounts Payable & Receivable:
- Process invoices and payments, ensuring proper coding and adherence to company policies.
- Review and maintain accounts payable and receivable ledgers to ensure accurate reporting.
- Assist in cash flow monitoring by managing and updating the accounts receivable and payable schedules.
- Month-End Close:
- Support the month-end and year-end closing processes, including preparing account reconciliations, journal entries, and variance analysis.
- Collaborate with other departments to gather necessary information for the close process and resolve any discrepancies.
- Financial Reporting:
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and company policies in all financial reports.
- Other Duties:
- Maintain organized and detailed financial records to ensure transparency and ease of access for reporting.
- Assist in special projects or process improvement initiatives within the accounting department.
- Provide support to other team members in the department as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 1-3 years of experience in accounting or finance roles.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles (GAAP) and general ledger functions.
- Proficiency in accounting software (NetSuite) and advanced Excel skills.
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to work under tight deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
