About the job Fire Alarm Designer
Job Duties & Responsibilities:

Oversee the design of commercial fire alarm construction projects.

Collaborate closely with Field Operations and customers to ensure project accuracy.

Develop detailed fire alarm plans in CAD format.

Manage multiple projects from inception to completion, ensuring alignment with project timelines and construction phases.

Review project scope, product specifications, and fire life safety code compliance, ensuring consistency with AHJ requirements and engineer/architect input.

Prepare system layouts, including floor plans, Bill of Materials (BOM), sequences of operations, riser diagrams, panel layouts, and calculations.

Update plans based on field changes to produce precise as-built drawings.

Maintain clear communication with internal teams and external customers regarding design updates, timelines, and approvals.

Utilize in-house printing resources to present designs professionally.

Assist with additional assignments as delegated by the Operations team.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:

High school diploma.
-
Minimum 3 years of experience in fire alarm systems.
-
Proficiency in AutoCAD, including working with floor plans (2D), blocks, external references, and page setups.

Experience with MS Office Suite (Word & Excel) and Adobe.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Problem-solving skills with a customer-focused approach.

Familiarity with NFPA 72 Fire Life Safety Code.

Ability to read and interpret architectural, mechanical, and electrical plans.

Strong organizational and time management skills.
Preferred Qualifications:

Two-year technical degree in a related field.

3+ years of experience in fire alarm system design.
-
Experience with AutoCAD and BlueBeam.
-
Understanding of fire alarm systems and their integration with other trades.
-
NICET or other relevant certifications in the special systems industry.
-
Professional demeanor with a positive attitude.
