Position Overview:

The Construction Safety Specialist is responsible for providing training and guidance to project teams on safe work practices, enforcing adherence to Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) programs, policies, and procedures, and ensuring the identification, mitigation, and control of hazardous conditions on construction sites.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Educate project teams, including trade employees, on EH&S programs, policies, and procedures while promoting safe work practices.
  • Enforce compliance with safety policies, federal, state, and local regulations, as well as contractual requirements.
  • Build strong working relationships with project teams and subcontractor safety representatives.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of project safety programs.
  • Conduct pre-construction planning meetings with subcontractors to review site safety programs, job hazard analyses, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Review subcontractor safety programs to ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards.
  • Collect and evaluate Pre-Task Plans (PTPs) and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) for subcontractors.
  • Ensure subcontractors conduct appropriate safety training as per OSHA requirements and oversee new worker orientation programs.
  • Prepare and analyze safety reports, identify trends, and recommend improvements.
  • Conduct safety audits and enforce corrective actions to maintain compliance.
  • Lead safety meetings, maintain records of toolbox talks, and ensure project safety communication is effectively managed.
  • Support efforts to reduce incident rates and prevent regulatory citations.
  • Administer drug screening programs as required by company policies and contractual obligations.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or a related field, with at least two years of construction safety experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • CHST certification required or must be obtained within two years of appointment.
  • OSHA 30-hour training completion and valid First Aid/CPR/BBP/AED certifications.
  • Strong knowledge of EH&S regulations at the federal, state, and local levels.
  • Familiarity with general construction operations and safety principles.
  • Ability to assess safety risks and implement corrective actions effectively.
  • Excellent leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, including effective presentation skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to travel as required, with reliable transportation.

Compensation

  • Salary-based pay is $72,000 - $90,000 depending on experience and references.
  • Full benefits offered include medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Holiday pay and PTO.
