About the job Building Automation Systems Technician
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Building Automation Controls Technician to join our growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for programming, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintaining building automation systems. Ideal candidates will have hands-on experience with Niagara, Tridium, Distech, Alerton, or JCI Metasys platforms. Key Responsibilities:
- Program and configure DDC control systems for new and existing BAS installations.
- Perform installation, commissioning, and network configuration of building controls and field devices.
- Troubleshoot BAS hardware/software, HVAC control systems, and mechanical integration issues.
- Collaborate with project managers, installers, and commissioning teams to meet deadlines and budgets.
- Ensure installations comply with project specifications, building codes, and industry standards.
- Maintain accurate documentation of programming, commissioning, and service activities.
- Communicate effectively with clients and internal teams (project coordinators, supervisors, account managers).
- Support retrofit and upgrade opportunities for existing BAS systems.
- Follow all safety procedures and ensure compliance with OSHA and company policies.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience with at least one major BAS platform: Niagara (AX/N4), Tridium, Distech, Alerton, or JCI Metasys.
- High school diploma or GED required; associate degree in HVAC, Electronics, or a related technical field preferred.
- A bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering is a plus.
- Alternative qualifications include military training or on-the-job experience in BAS/HVAC controls.
- Proficiency with Windows OS, BAS software tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong problem-solving skills for networking, controls, HVAC systems, and low-voltage wiring.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics.
- Strong communication skills for both customer-facing and internal coordination.
- Customer-focused mindset and ability to resolve field issues quickly and effectively.
Physical & Travel Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (ladders, tools, control panels).
- Comfortable with physical site work (climbing ladders, walking job sites, kneeling, crawling).
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required.
- Willingness to work on active construction sites as needed (Up to 75% depending on current project needs)
Compensation & Benefits:
- Salary Range: $80,000 $120,000 (based on experience and certifications)
