Staff Accountant

 Job Description:

The Staff Accountant will report directly to the CFO and is responsible for preparing and maintaining financial records, tracking the organizations assets, preparing, and maintaining account reconciliations, and other financial activities while providing a high level of internal and external customer service.

This role will have a strong focus on account reconciliations to start and then will branch into the different aspects of the accounting function.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for all aspects of Accounts Receivable, including customer invoicing, customer deposits, collections, and credit reference inquiries, responding to customer inquiries and needs, and other aspects of Accounts Receivable.
  • Prepares, enters, and codes AR billings and monthly requisitions accurately.
  • Tracks and resolves outstanding invoice issues.
  • Assertively and tactfully communicates, discusses and resolves accounting related problems with internal team members and outside vendors.
  • Completes General Ledger reconciliations, inter-company, assets, AR and AP, and bank account reconciliations.
  • Provides monthly assistance to Project Management staff in preparation for billings to General Contractors and owners.
  • Processes cost transfers on project cost reports for Project Management Staff.
  • Monitors cashflow, communicating with Project Management staff on tracking receivables and when accounts are paid.
  • Calculates, compiles, reports, and generates tax-related payments and reconciles related GL accounts, sales and use, excise, and other taxes.
  • Processes and generates 1099 Forms as necessary.
  • Assists with and completes monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing activities as directed.
  • Scans, files, and completes data entry of related documents on a timely basis.
  • Provides back-up support within the accounting department
  • Cross-trains internal department personnel
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational conferences; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies, etc.
  • Satisfactory completion of appropriate corporate training as related to the position and/or department.
  • Contributes to overall achievement by accomplishing related tasks and demonstrating characteristics that exemplify team building and support.

Requirement & Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of Staff Accounting required.
  • Experience in Construction Accounting a plus, not required.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills such as Excel Pivot Tables/V-Lookups.
  • Sage, Procore, HH2 a plus.
  • Self-starter with a team player attitude; comfortable taking the initiative and working in collaboration with team members.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to read/write and communicate in English.
  • Ability to function well in very busy situations.

  • Ability to interact appropriately with a variety of individuals including, but not limited to, coworkers, supervisors, clients, designers/consultants, and subcontractors.

Education:

  • Bachelors degree in accounting or related field of study.
