We are seeking a Junior Drill & Blast Engineer to join our team at an underground Zinc mining operation. This facility is located within a 2-hour drive from scenic locations such as the Thousand Islands, Lake Ontario, the Adirondack Mountains, and world-class skiing at Lake Placid. With cities like Montreal and Ottawa only 2-3 hours away, it's an ideal location for both professional growth and exploration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design blast patterns, especially for longhole stopes.
- Assist in the timing and loading of blasts.
- Monitor drilling and blasting activities, analyze results, and implement improvements to achieve optimal fragmentation. Focus areas include drilling rates, spatial and physical compliance with daily and weekly plans, wall attainment, dilution/loss, and cost efficiency.
- Assist in managing and overseeing blasting contractors.
- Collaborate with stakeholders on drill and blast design and execution, ensuring effective communication.
- Perform QA/QC of key inputs and metrics for drilling and blasting.
- Ensure that all personnel, including contractors, adhere to safety protocols in line with mine site procedures and MSHA safety guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in mining engineering or equivalent, as well as a minor in explosive engineering, is an asset.
- Basic understanding and experience with 3D modeling and mine planning software; experience with Deswik is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills across all levels of the organization.
- Ability to work in the U.S.
- Willingness to obtain blaster certification in New York State if required.
