Role & Responsibilities / Job Description:
Key Responsibility:
- System Administration:
- Install, configure, and maintain Linux and Windows servers.
- Monitor system performance and ensure availability and reliability.
- Perform regular system and security audits.
- Manage and support VMware, Hyper-V, or other virtualization environments.
- Network Management:
- Configure and maintain network services, equipment, and devices.
- Troubleshoot network performance issues and resolve connectivity problems.
- Implement and manage VPNs, firewalls, and other security measures.
- Security:
- Implement and monitor security measures to protect data, software, and hardware.
- Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis and upgrade administrative tools and utilities.
- Configure/add new services as necessary.
- User Support:
- Provide technical support to end-users for hardware, software, and network issues.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all implemented systems and applications.
- Train and mentor junior staff and new hires.
- Backup and Recovery:
- Implement and manage backup and recovery strategies.
- Perform regular backup operations and ensure data integrity.
- Automation and Scripting:
- Develop and maintain scripts to automate system administration tasks.
- Use configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef) to automate system provisioning and management.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with other IT team members to support infrastructure needs.
- Collaborate with development teams to support deployment and maintenance of applications.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelors degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Experience:
- Proven experience as a System Administrator, Network Administrator, or similar role.
- Strong experience with both Linux (e.g., Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu) and Windows Server environments.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficient in shell scripting (e.g., Bash) and other scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell).
- Experience with Virtualization (VMware/Hyper V) is a plus.
- Knowledge of system security (e.g., intrusion detection systems) and data backup/recovery.
- Familiarity with various monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, Zabbix, SolarWinds).
- Experience with ITSM (e.g., SNOW, Manage Engine, Remedy).
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Certifications (Preferred but not required):
- Microsoft Certified: Windows Server (MCSA, MCSE)
- Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
- VMWare Certified Professional (VCP).
Working Conditions:
This role is primarily based at the customer site - Bangalore, with some travel required. (domestic)
The position may involve night shifts or weekend work to meet program deadlines or address urgent customer needs.
