Role Purpose

To develop and configure SAP solutions that ensure SmithsNews, Newsworks clients, and their key trading partners are equipped with systems that cost-effectively support the operation of the business and enable it to meet its objectives. To ensure that these solutions are delivered on time, within budget and are fit for purpose.

A Senior ABAP developer will be working as a member of the SAP development team and will be responsible for the delivery of ABAP programs, including design, development testing and support (with all associated documentation). As a senior developer, productivity and quality are expected to be high, along with an ability to work without supervision and taking personal responsibility for the success or otherwise of assigned tasks.

Senior ABAP Developers will be expected to plan their work, design solutions and provide reliable estimates before commencing development activities. You will be expected to be self-sufficient and to take the initiative to contact relevant people to gather information and resolve queries, escalating problems as needed.

Key Accountabilities

  • To develop quality code and its associated documentation adhering to team and departmental development standards.
  • To accurately log time for completed tasks
  • To provide SAP support including analysis, development, testing, tracking and resolution.
  • To demonstrate a logical and structured approach to time management and task prioritisation.
  • To demonstrate high level of communication skills (verbal and written).
  • To ensure current skills are up-to-date through research and practice.
  • To participate in team activities and team planning with the aim of improving team skills, awareness and quality of work.
  • To engage professionally with customers when required
  • Ensure all assigned activities are performed to schedule or, when not possible, to inform project management with ample warning of slippages along with re-estimates of delivery dates.
