About the job Machinery Manager (Shipyard)

  • Diploma or a Degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Certificate of Competency (Marine Engineer Officer) Class 3 to 1 (Motor ship), or its equivalent.
  • Project management qualification is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 10 years Experience in Shipyard including as head of any P&O section.
  • At least 3-4 years of managerial experience as head of a P&O department; total 10 years of relevant working experience in the Marine (ship repair/conversion/new building/offshore/onshore) industry with extensive knowledge in ship engines / various type of machining tools.
  • Responsible and accountable for overall operations of the Mechanical Department ensuring the projects are delivered within Safety, Quality and budgetary targets.
  • Monitor the financial performance of the department against budgets so that areas of unsatisfactory performance are identified and rectified promptly to assist the management to achieve overall company performance target.
  • Management of the day-to-day operations of the mechanical department both onboard and workshop to ensure that work processes are implemented as required complying relevant procedures.
  • Responsible for proper management of raw materials, equipment logistics, people resources & admin processes.
  • Review the scope of works and establish production objectives, standards and production schedules to ensure timely delivery of all the projects undertaken.
  • Liaise with other functions Project Managers / Client/ Class Societies as deemed for discussion on project matters and resolve issues.
  • Oversee department manpower, equipments and various other resource requirements and ensure optimum use of the same by ensuring cost control is exercised throughout the year.
  • Develop systems and procedures that track and monitor productivity metrics
  • Engage and develop all personnel by initiating clear directives and drive continual improvement efforts, leading change management.
  • Ensure that all activities are captured for billing purposes.
  • Ensure all reports are prepared and reported to management
  • Ensure value chain is met throughout.
  • Authorize purchase of equipment, spares and materials as required.
  • Ensure compliance to all relevant safety, quality and environmental management policies, procedures and controls across the section in order to guarantee employee safety, legislative compliance and a responsible environmental attitude.
