Working with the developer, the Project Engineer will be responsible for supporting all technical aspects of the development of the company's Australian portfolio of Solar & Battery Energy Storage projects, including all technical interfaces with adjacent functions of the business such as trading, procurement and delivery/construction.
The Role
The Project Engineer will collaborate with developers on large-scale solar and battery storage projects. This role ensures project pipelines are developed safely, on time, and meet financial, quality, and reliability expectations. Reporting to the Managing Director and Project Development Manager, you will work in a multi-disciplinary team to complete greenfield projects, identify and mitigate risks, ensure compliance with Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality standards, and manage contractor and stakeholder interfaces. Flexibility and adaptability are key, as you will support various project phases independently and as part of a team in a growing business.
The position will be based in Sydney CBD.
Key Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will actively engage with a global team, sharing and learning from colleagues worldwide to enhance technical practices in Australia. They will uphold the highest safety standards both in the office and on-site, ensuring contractors and partners adhere to the same Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (HSEQ) standards.
- Supervise and review project designs to ensure they are optimized and make sense, overseeing the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) project.
- Ensure design accuracy according to owner specifications from Greenfield to Commercial Operation Date (COD), with experience in gear connection for power storage and large-scale projects.
- Collaborate with Project Development Managers and partners to assess feasibility of new battery energy storage projects via desktop and on-site assessments.
- Prepare, assess, and optimize project designs, including site layouts, system sizing, and equipment selection, while managing external engineering consultants.
- Oversee design review, quality assurance, and acceptance.
- Provide support in developing and implementing project design and equipment standards.
- Prepare tender documentation and manage competitive processes for selecting equipment vendors and construction contractors.
- Assist in environmental planning and approval processes, ensuring compliance with planning conditions.
- Prepare technical scopes of work for development activities and collaborate on grid connection applications, ensuring alignment with design and technology choices.
Selection Criteria
- Fluent Chinese speaker.
- Engineering degree with 2-3 years of experience in Project Development, Engineering consulting, ideally in the Renewable Energy industry.
- Knowledge of Battery Energy Storage System design, control, and performance requirements.
- Familiarity with power generation equipment and Australian standards (substations, power converters, SCADA systems).
- Strong project management, stakeholder management, and critical thinking skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, project management software, and CAD-based tools, with a commitment to health, safety, and environment management.
