Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Chief Engineer to lead the technical execution, cost performance, and schedule delivery across a portfolio of complex engineering programs. This leader will oversee a 100-person cross-functional engineering organization and manage multiple Program Chief Engineers to ensure successful execution from development through low-rate production. Serving as the primary engineering interface to business leadership, this role requires strong analytical, operational, and customer-facing capabilities to balance technical performance with cost and schedule commitments. The ideal candidate brings extensive experience leading large engineering teams, driving program transitions to production, and operating within earned value and control account management frameworks. An active DoD Secret Clearance is required.
Key Responsibilities:
- The Chief Engineer is responsible for delivering the technical, cost, and schedule performance of the engineering content for a program portfolio.
- The Chief Engineer is responsible for shaping, developing, and leading an engineering team in execution of the Engineering content of the program and will be the primary engineering representative to the MIS business working closely with the MIS General Manager.
- The position requires flexibility to manage multiple customer requirements (cost, schedule, technical capabilities), while using analytical and strategic skills to guide the engineering team to successful program deliveries of customer needs
- Build, develop, and lead a 100-person cross-functional engineering team to execute programs meeting requirements on budget and schedule.
- Manage and lead a group of 3-6 Program Chief Engineers who are responsible for individual program execution within the business portfolio.
Qualifications:
*** Active DoD Secret Clearance, which requires US Citizenship.***
- 12 years of prior relevant experience.
- A masters degree in engineering or a Master of Business Administration.
- 10 years of relevant experience leading cross functional engineering teams (including at least one assignment leading a 40+ person engineering team).
- Experience transitioning development programs through qualification to low-rate production.
- Good working knowledge of Control Account Management (CAM) and Earned Value Management, Risk and opportunity management, as well as understanding and reporting of engineering metrics.
