The Accounting Manager will oversee the company’s end-to-end accounting operations, financial reporting, tax compliance, and internal controls. This role will play a key part in establishing and strengthening accounting processes for a growing retail and wholesale business.
The position requires a hands-on accounting leader who can manage day-to-day finance operations, ensure compliance with Philippine accounting and tax requirements, build scalable processes, and work closely with cross-functional teams and management to support business growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate and timely recording of financial transactions.
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing activities.
- Prepare and review financial statements and management reports in accordance with Philippine Financial Reporting Standards (PFRS).
- Maintain accurate records of assets, liabilities, inventory, fixed assets, and other balance sheet accounts.
- Perform and review bank, supplier, customer, and other relevant account reconciliations.
- Maintain and continuously improve the chart of accounts and accounting processes appropriate for a retail/wholesale environment.
- Ensure the accuracy and completeness of accounting records and supporting documentation.
- Coordinate with external auditors and provide the necessary schedules, documents, and information for audit requirements.
Finance Processes & Internal Controls
- Design, establish, and continuously improve accounting and financial processes as the business grows.
- Develop and implement appropriate internal controls across finance and accounting operations.
- Establish and monitor policies and procedures covering cash handling, inventory management, procurement, expenses, and payment approvals.
- Review OPEX and CAPEX transactions, including supporting documentation and applicable tax requirements, prior to payment.
- Identify process gaps and recommend improvements to strengthen financial controls, efficiency, and compliance.
- Ensure proper segregation of duties and appropriate controls within accounting and finance processes.
Tax & Statutory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Philippine tax laws, regulations, and statutory requirements.
- Prepare and/or review tax computations, returns, and other required statutory filings.
- Ensure timely submission of tax returns and government reports.
- Maintain complete and accurate documentation supporting tax filings and tax audits.
- Support tax planning initiatives and identify opportunities to improve tax efficiency while maintaining compliance.
- Coordinate with external tax consultants, auditors, and relevant government agencies as necessary.
- Monitor changes in tax regulations and assess their impact on the business.
Systems & Process Development
- Support the implementation, enhancement, and integration of ERP or accounting systems as the business scales.
- Ensure accounting systems and processes are aligned with operational requirements, particularly for inventory, purchasing, sales, and other retail-related transactions.
- Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and documentation.
- Leverage accounting systems and Microsoft Excel to improve reporting accuracy and operational efficiency.
Team & Cross-Functional Management
- Lead and supervise the accounting team, ensuring effective execution of accounting and compliance activities.
- Provide guidance, coaching, and performance management to team members.
- Work closely with Finance, Operations, Procurement, Commercial, and other departments to resolve accounting and financial matters.
- Partner with management by providing accurate financial information and insights to support business decisions.
- Take a hands-on approach to resolving issues and managing evolving priorities in a growing business environment.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is required.
- At least 10 years of relevant accounting experience, with at least 3 years of experience in retail, preferably large-format retail, wholesale, FMCG, or a similarly high-volume environment.
- Proven experience in a supervisory or managerial accounting role.
- Strong knowledge of Philippine accounting standards, taxation, statutory requirements, and financial controls.
- Solid experience in financial reporting, month-end closing, account reconciliation, and audit coordination.
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems and strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Experience in establishing or improving accounting processes and internal controls is highly preferred.
