Role Overview
This role is for a senior, hands-on technical leader with strong console game development experience. You will review and guide the technical architecture of multiple game projects, ensure long-term scalability, and help shape the technical foundation for future console titles.
You will work closely with the UK Technical Head and play a key role in building, mentoring, and scaling the game engineering team. This role requires deep involvement in real codebases, not just high-level reviews.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Architecture & Code Assessment

Perform deep technical reviews of console game codebases
- Identify architectural risks, technical debt, and long-term maintenance issues
- Provide clear, actionable recommendations to improve performance, scalability, and stability
- Ensure architecture aligns with console platform requirements and constraints
Hands-On Console Development
- Actively contribute to console game development using C++ and/or C#
- Support teams with complex technical problem-solving in real production code
- Guide optimization efforts related to memory, performance, and multi-threading on consoles
Cross-Platform & Engine Strategy
- Provide architectural guidance for projects targeting console-first or console-led development
- Evaluate technical feasibility and risks across platforms (console, PC, mobile where applicable)
- Support engine-level decisions for Unity, Unreal, or proprietary engines
Team Building & Technical Leadership
- Work closely with leadership to build and grow the future game development team
- Mentor senior and mid-level engineers on console best practices
- Establish engineering standards, coding guidelines, and review processes
- Improve development workflows, tools, and build pipelines
Collaboration & Stakeholder Interaction
- Collaborate daily with the UK Technical Head on architecture, planning, and long-term strategy

Work closely with engineers, designers, producers, and tech artists
- Ensure technical excellence throughout the full game development lifecycle
Mandatory Requirements

Strong, hands-on experience in console game development
- Senior engineer or architect with deep technical ownership of shipped console titles
- Proven ability to evaluate complex game codebases and guide architectural decisions

Strong proficiency in C++ and/or C#
- Hands-on experience with Unity, Unreal Engine, or proprietary console engines
- Deep understanding of console constraints: performance, memory, threading, and platform SDKs

Experience with build systems such as CMake, Make, or similar
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work with international stakeholders
Good to Have
- Experience shipping games on multiple console platforms (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo)

Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines for console builds

Familiarity with large or legacy codebases

Understanding of scalable software architecture patterns

Exposure to AI-assisted development tools (optional)
- Experience supporting or leading teams in a growing studio environment
Education (Preferred)
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
- Proven track record of successful console game releases
