We are currently seeking a dedicated and accomplished Material Inspector for the Hudson Tunnel Project (HTP). The busiest rail connection between New York, New Jersey, and the Northeast Corridor, the Hudson Tunnel Project will improve capacity, reliability, and resiliency of commuter and intercity rail transit serving 800,000 daily passengers from Washington, D.C. to New York and New England. This is a milestone project that is slated to receive nearly $12 billion in federal funding, the largest investment in a mass transit project in modern history.
As the Material Inspector, you will play a pivotal role in the delivery of this significant project. Responsibilities
- Ensure that all materials used in the Hudson Tunnel Project meet project specifications, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Responsible for field inspections, materials testing, documentation, and compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
- Inspect and verify all construction materials delivered and installed on-site for compliance with approved specifications, drawings, and quality standards.
- Coordinate and monitor all materials testing required under the Project Contract, including off-site testing by independent laboratories.
- Maintain accurate and systematic records of all materials inspections, testing, and acceptance or rejection decisions.
- Support implementation of the Hudson Tunnel Project Quality Management Plan (QMP) and applicable supplemental QA/QC procedures.
- Review and evaluate test results, maintain up-to-date testing logs, document non-conformances, and verify corrective actions through resolution.
- Prepare and support quality documentation and reporting, including daily, monthly, and quarterly reports on materials quality and issues.
- Monitor contractor recordkeeping, provide recommendations on materials quality and compliance issues, and support close-out by verifying materials meet final acceptance requirements.
Qualifications
- Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Materials Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3+ years of experience in materials inspection or testing, preferably on large infrastructure or transportation projects.
- Familiarity with materials testing procedures, QA/QC processes, and construction documentation.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational, and excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with contractors, engineers, and project management teams.
- Experience with federally funded transportation projects.
- Certification in materials inspection or testing (e.g., ACI, NICET, or similar) is desirable.
- Proficiency in using digital inspection and reporting tools.
