Role Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Technical Accountant with experience in reinsurance accounting. The role involves managing the financial and technical aspects of reinsurance contracts, including premium processing, claims settlements, reconciliations, and reporting, ensuring compliance with internal policies and market regulations.
Responsibilities
- Process reinsurance premium and claim transactions accurately and in line with contractual terms
- Prepare and review technical accounts for both treaty and facultative business (inward and outward)
- Reconcile technical balances with brokers, cedants, and reinsurers on a regular basis
- Maintain up-to-date records of statements of account, bordereaux, and settlement notices
- Monitor cash calls, recoveries, and payments, ensuring proper allocation and aging control
- Support quarterly and annual closing activities, including journal entries, accruals, and technical reserves
- Assist in preparing reinsurance financial statements, regulatory returns, and management reports
- Liaise with underwriting, claims, and finance teams to validate accounting entries and data integrity
- Support external audits and ensure compliance with IFRS 17 and other applicable standards
- Identify and resolve discrepancies in data, improving automation and accuracy of reporting processes
Requirements
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 4 - 7 years of experience in technical accounting within reinsurance or insurance
- Strong knowledge of treaty and facultative reinsurance structures and settlement processes
- Familiarity with reinsurance systems (e.g., SICS, SAP, TIA, or equivalent)
- Solid understanding of IFRS 17, technical reserves, and premium/claims flow
- Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with accounting software
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical mindset, and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional certification (ACCA, CPA, or equivalent)
- Experience working with international reinsurers or brokers
- Exposure to multi-currency and multi-entity accounting environments
