This opportunity is advertised as being based in or near Canberra/ACT due to business needs. 100% remote would not suit the requirements of this role.

The department does however support working from home arrangements on a case-by-case basis subject to the business needs of the supervising manager and business unit.

Given the nature of the duties of this role, it will require regular access and interaction with staff based in the departments Canberra location.

The CIO Division provides a range of enabling services and operations delivery to the department and to Australian businesses and is seeking an experienced and motivated Network Engineer to assist with the delivery of various ICT Projects across the Division.

The Network Engineer will be responsible for day-to-day operations and business as usual processes (BAU) within the ICT Networks & Infrastructure Platforms section of the ICT Operations Branch of CIOD. Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

Provision and management of PROTECTED, OFFICIAL and UNOFFICIAL networks (including on-premise and cloud environments), Switches, Routers, Firewalls, SD-WAN, etc. Network Hardware: Cisco, Citrix, F5, Fortinet, etc

  • Provision of secure access to the internet
  • Management of telephony system (Microsoft Teams and Cisco)
  • Support of Video Conferencing hardware and software
  • 3rd level ICT support across DISR business applications

Essential Criteria

1. Experience with various technologies including: LAN/WAN, TCP/IP, IPSEC/SSL VPNs, Voice/Video, DNS, DHCP, SNMP, SMTP, HTTP/S

2. Proven ability to analyse and solve issues in a complex environment. Excellent communication verbal and written and collaboration skills to work with skilled technical people, including making presentations to staff and stakeholders and coaching staff

3. Demonstrated experience and knowledge in the design, administration, tuning and troubleshooting of: Cisco Routing and Switching technologies including: VPLS, MPLS, BGP, DMVPN, SDWAN, GRE, IPSEC, 802.1q, VRF, EIGRP, HSRP, ACLs, Port Security, AAA Firewalls including Palo Alto, Cisco and Fortinet Load Balancing Citrix NetScaler, F5 and implementing and troubleshooting Azure networks Cisco Wireless Technologies Cisco 9800 series Wireless LAN Controllers.

4. Demonstrated experience and knowledge in the design, administration, tuning and troubleshooting of: VPN Technologies Citrix Access Gateway, Microsoft Experience with working with VMware, Windows, Linux

5. Capacity to undertake a high level of rigorous, independent analytical thinking
