Job Overview:

We are on the lookout for a talented Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team. This role involves leading the design and development of advanced electro-mechanical laboratory soil testing equipment. Your expertise will drive the end-to-end process from initial concept through to production, ensuring our products are robust and meet industry standards. Located in the Greater Boston region; temporary position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Spearhead the creation and integration of electro-mechanical systems for laboratory soil testing, ensuring seamless operation of mechanical and electrical components.
  • Develop comprehensive engineering drawings, specifications, and documentation in line with regulatory and industry standards.
  • Mentor and guide a team of engineers and technicians, overseeing prototype development and providing technical support throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, performance analysis, and testing to refine design concepts for optimal reliability and manufacturability.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure timely delivery and adherence to quality standards.
  • Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to negotiate contracts, source components, and monitor production schedules.
  • Continuously enhance existing designs and processes based on feedback and emerging technologies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; Master's degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in designing electro-mechanical systems, ideally in laboratory equipment or similar industries.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) and familiarity with simulation tools for mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Experience with designing electronic schematics and PCB layouts using software like Altium.
  • Solid background in robotics, automated controls, and industrial automation.
  • Strong understanding of PID control principles, sensors, actuators, and their integration into mechanical designs.
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering principles and the ability to work closely with electrical engineers.
  • Proven track record in preparing detailed engineering documentation and managing production processes with external vendors.
  • Expertise in machining processes and additive manufacturing technologies.
  • Exceptional project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage deadlines, and communicate effectively across teams.
  • Familiarity with industry standards (ISO, EN, UL) and best practices related to electro-mechanical equipment design.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.

Preferred Skills:

  • Exposure to soil mechanics, geotechnical engineering, geophysics, or related fields.
  • Knowledge of software programming languages (e.g., C, C++, Python) for embedded systems and data analysis.
  • Experience with FSM, ISR, DAC, and ADC interfacing.
  • Familiarity with 8051, Arm, ESP, or RP2040 hardware.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes, material selection, and cost estimation.
