About the job Truck & Refrigerated Trailer Mechanic
Perform Recruitment is currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established transport company based in Roscrea, Co. Tipperary for an experienced Truck & Refrigerated Trailer Mechanic. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled technician to join a busy, hands-on workshop supporting a modern fleet operating both domestically and across continental routes.
The ideal candidate will have solid experience working with heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) and refrigerated trailer systems, with strong practical knowledge of leading truck and refrigeration brands.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out servicing, maintenance, and repairs on Scania and Volvo trucks
- Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults on HGVs and trailers
- Service and maintain Thermo King refrigerated trailer units
- Inspect vehicles and trailers to ensure roadworthiness and compliance standards
- Respond to breakdowns and urgent repairs, including after-hours issues when vehicles return from continental routes
- Complete all required maintenance documentation accurately
- Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard
- Support general workshop duties as required
Candidate Requirements
- Previous experience working as a mechanic on trucks and/or refrigerated trailers (essential)
- Strong knowledge of Scania and Volvo vehicles (advantageous)
- Experience with Thermo King refrigeration systems (highly desirable)
- Ability to diagnose faults and work independently in a busy workshop environment
- Strong mechanical and problem-solving skills
- Good attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Flexible approach to overtime and occasional urgent call-outs
Working Hours
- Monday to Friday: 9:00am – 6:00pm (1-hour lunch break)
- Saturday overtime: 9:00am – 1:00pm (as required)
- Additional overtime may be required for urgent repairs, particularly when vehicles return from continental operations
