About the job Engineering Technician

Engineering Technician

Perform Recruitment is hiring on behalf of our client, a well-established and fast-growing food manufacturing business based in Co. Cavan. As the site continues to expand and invest in its production capabilities, they're now looking to add an experienced Engineering Technician to their engineering and maintenance team.

This is a great opportunity for a hands-on engineer who enjoys keeping high-speed production lines running reliably, while also contributing to ongoing improvement and investment projects on site.

The Role

You'll join the engineering team and play a key role in maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving mechanical equipment across the production facility, working closely with Production, Technical, and wider Engineering colleagues to minimise downtime and keep the site running smoothly.

Your day-to-day could include:

  • Carrying out planned and reactive maintenance on production and packaging machinery
  • Diagnosing and resolving mechanical breakdowns quickly to minimise production downtime
  • Supporting installation, commissioning, and upgrade of new equipment and production lines
  • Reading and working from technical drawings, manuals, and maintenance schedules
  • Identifying opportunities for process and equipment improvements
  • Ensuring all work is carried out in line with food safety, hygiene, and health & safety standards
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance records and completing relevant documentation
  • Working closely with the wider engineering and production teams to support continuous improvement initiatives
  • As you settle into the role, there's genuine scope to get involved in larger capital and improvement projects as the site continues to grow.

What We're Looking For

  • A qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Maintenance Engineering, or a related discipline (trade qualification or degree considered)
  • Proven experience in a mechanical maintenance role, ideally within food manufacturing or another fast-paced production environment
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable working with pneumatics, hydraulics, and mechanical production equipment
  • A practical, hands-on approach with good attention to detail
  • Flexibility to support shift or on-call cover where required
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work well within a team

What's on Offer

  • Full-time, permanent role with a stable, growing employer
  • Competitive salary, depending on experience
  • A genuinely expanding site with ongoing investment in equipment and processes
  • Real opportunity for career development within engineering
  • Exposure to a broad range of maintenance and improvement projects
