Job Title: Investment Analyst
Location: Tokyo, Japan
Reports To: Head of Investment
Role Summary
The Investment Analyst will focus on sourcing and deploying investments into renewable assets
and engaging with stakeholders to ensure smooth operations throughout the asset lifecycle
from development and construction to operational phases. This role requires a deep
understanding of the development, engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC), and
operations and maintenance (O&M) processes.
Core Responsibilities
Investment, Sourcing & Partnership:
Lead and coordinate junior analysts and resources according to senior management's
strategy and priorities.
Support the sourcing process for in-house development companies to expedite
deployment.
Assist in due diligence, quality assurance, peer reviews, and sanity checks for financial
models.
Maintain investor relationships and manage day-to-day interactions for funds where we
act as General Partner (GP).
Contribute to writing investment committee (IC) memos, reviewing contracts, and
executing deals.
Support ongoing partnerships, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), and joint ventures (JV)
with investment managers and energy utilities in the APAC region and beyond.
Foster relationships with developers to deploy capital raised, including opportunities in
renewable assets.
Collaborate with the investment team to identify joint venture or co-funding opportunities
with other renewable asset managers.
Lead transaction management with external partners, including JV partners, banks, and
equity providers, throughout the contracting and exit process.
Capital Management & Value Enhancement:
Manage operational tasks such as development schedules, payment schedules, and capital
management frameworks.
Support asset and portfolio management activities to bridge capital providers with
development activities.
Coordinate with developers and partners to update project statuses, adjust models, and
provide monthly investor reports.
Resolve stakeholder issues to execute investment strategies and update senior
management and the investment committee as needed.
Maintain and update financial models, including acquisition, portfolio, and resale models.
Work with development and construction teams to identify potential buyers for resale
opportunities.
Source deals from internal and external developers across target markets.
Support new relationships with developers, EPC, and O&M companies to ensure efficient
workflows and timely project completion.
Track data in financial models and communicate with developers regarding acquisition,
portfolio management, and resale tracking.
Address and resolve any issues promptly.
Reporting and Documentation:
Create and maintain pitchbooks for fundraising and investor communication, tailored to
local market requirements.
Prepare investment memos and financial models for the Investment Committee, including
due diligence documentation.
Draft IC memos, fund flow memos, cash maps, investor relationship documents, and
review contracts.
Process Efficiency & Creation:
Identify gaps in internal functions across investment, fundraising, capital management,
operations, compliance, and legal teams; organize weekly scrums with team heads.
Develop and organize folder structures for the investment and capital management teams
to enhance efficiency.
Create manuals and templates for financial models, pricing analysis, and support for new
team members.
Explore outsourcing options to improve efficiency with stakeholders.
Develop a framework for selecting developers to diversify products by geography and
asset class.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Finance, Economics, or Business.
3-5 years of experience as an Investment Analyst.
Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and internal reporting tools.
Excellent communication skills for engaging with internal and external stakeholders.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple assignments concurrently.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to structure unstructured problems.
Professional working proficiency in English and Japanese.
