Job Summary

The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the technical supervision and management of all mechanical works executed on site, including HVAC systems, chilled water networks, plumbing and drainage systems, firefighting systems, compressed air and vacuum systems, and process-related mechanical installations required for full facility functionality.

The role ensures that all mechanical installations, testing, and commissioning activities comply with approved design documentation, technical specifications, and UAE authority regulations such as DMT, Civil Defense, ADDC, and Estidama. The Senior Mechanical Engineer plays a critical role in maintaining quality, reliability, and performance of all mechanical systems from mobilization through final handover.

Purpose of the Position

To supervise, coordinate, and manage all mechanical construction, installation, and commissioning activities, including HVAC, water supply, drainage, firefighting, plumbing, and process mechanical systems.

The role involves coordination with subcontractors, consultants, and internal teams to ensure all mechanical systems and utilities are installed, tested, and commissioned in accordance with approved drawings, project specifications, and UAE regulatory standards. Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the Senior MEP Manager or Project Manager to support project completion.

Key Responsibilities

1. Technical Supervision and Coordination

  • Supervise and coordinate mechanical works including HVAC, plumbing, drainage, firefighting, and utility systems.
  • Ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and international standards such as ASHRAE, NFPA, and ISO.
  • Review and verify design drawings, shop drawings, and technical submittals.
  • Coordinate mechanical construction activities with subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Ensure timely submission and approval of shop drawings, method statements, and material submittals.
  • Resolve technical issues and discrepancies in coordination with the project team.

2. Site Management and Execution Control

  • Plan and organize daily and weekly mechanical work activities.
  • Supervise installation to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
  • Monitor installation methods, sequencing, and execution quality.
  • Verify quantities of completed works for progress and payment certification.
  • Review subcontractor reports, inspection requests, and as-built documentation.
  • Coordinate with QA/QC, Planning, and Procurement teams.
  • Monitor manpower utilization and optimize resource allocation.
  • Prepare daily and weekly progress reports.

3. Testing, Commissioning, and Documentation

  • Supervise testing, balancing, and commissioning of mechanical systems.
  • Verify operational performance of HVAC, plumbing, and firefighting systems.
  • Review and approve as-built drawings and final documentation.
  • Support preparation of project handover documentation.
  • Coordinate commissioning activities with consultants, suppliers, and authorities.

4. Coordination and Reporting

  • Coordinate with subcontractors, consultants, and internal departments.
  • Attend site meetings and submit progress and technical reports.
  • Support preparation and review of progress claims.
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities for inspections and approvals.
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures and documentation standards.

5. Team Leadership and Management

  • Supervise mechanical inspectors and technicians.
  • Assign tasks and monitor team performance.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Work closely with QA/QC, Planning, and HSE teams.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC, or Building Services Engineering.
  • UAE Equivalency Certificate from the Ministry of Education (mandatory).
  • Minimum 9 years of professional experience, including at least 3 years in Abu Dhabi or UAE.
  • Experience in HVAC, plumbing, firefighting, and mechanical systems installation and commissioning.
  • Strong knowledge of UAE authority regulations and international standards such as ASHRAE and NFPA.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong leadership, coordination, and communication skills.
  • Fluent in English. Arabic is an advantage.
