Role Overview

The Head of SEO & AI Search (AEO) will own and elevate the entire organic search strategy, combining best-in-class SEO fundamentals with forward-looking Answer Engine Optimisation for AI overviews, assistants, and next-generation search experiences.
This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for shaping how customers — and AI systems — discover, understand, and engage with the brand across organic channels.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Leadership

  • Define and own the SEO and AEO strategy aligned to commercial objectives including revenue growth, visibility, and brand authority.

  • Develop a future-ready approach to AI-era search, including entity optimisation, structured data, and AI-friendly content formats.

  • Select, manage, and optimise the SEO technology stack (keyword tools, crawlers, analytics, and reporting platforms).

Content Hubs & AEO-Optimised Experiences

  • Design and build authoritative content ecosystems covering workplace, warehouse, safety, and related topics.

  • Architect content hubs, topic clusters, FAQs, and internal linking structures optimised for both users and AI retrieval systems.

  • Leverage AI tools for research, ideation, and drafting while maintaining strong editorial standards and brand consistency.

Technical & On-Site SEO

  • Lead technical SEO audits and improvements across crawlability, indexation, site architecture, faceted navigation, and performance.

  • Own structured data implementation (Product, FAQ, HowTo, Organisation, etc.) to maximise visibility across rich results and AI-driven surfaces.

  • Collaborate closely with development and product teams to scope, prioritise, and deliver technical enhancements.

Data, Insight & Optimisation

  • Use search data, analytics, and keyword intelligence to identify opportunities and refine content and optimisation strategies.

  • Build clear, actionable reporting on organic performance, content impact, and commercial outcomes for leadership.

  • Run structured experiments across titles, layouts, FAQs, and internal linking to continuously improve results.

Collaboration

  • Partner with social media and paid media teams to align campaigns, messaging, and landing pages across channels.

  • Ensure priority content and landing pages are amplified through both paid and organic activity, informed by audience insights.

Candidate Profile

Experience & Expertise

  • Proven experience leading SEO strategy for a large ecommerce or B2B website with an extensive product catalogue.

  • Deep understanding of modern SEO principles and strong interest in AI-driven search, AI overviews, and entity-based optimisation.

  • Demonstrated success building content ecosystems that drive sustainable traffic and revenue growth.

  • Hands-on experience using AI tools to accelerate workflows while applying strong human judgment.

  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to turn data into clear priorities and decisions.

  • Experience with UK or European markets is an advantage; B2B or industrial sector exposure is beneficial but not mandatory.
