About the Role

We are seeking an Analytics Engineer / Data Analyst to join the data and analytics team. This role focuses on building robust data pipelines, curating and structuring data for business use, and enabling self-service analytics through platforms like ThoughtSpot and Tableau. The ideal candidate will have a strong mix of technical data engineering skills, business acumen, and stakeholder engagement capability.

Key Responsibilities

Data Engineering & Pipelines:

  • Design, develop, and maintain SQL-based data pipelines to ensure data is accurate, timely, and ready for analytics consumption.
  • Curate and structure data for business reporting and self-service analysis (ThoughtSpot, Tableau).
  • Ensure high data quality, governance, and alignment with regulatory and compliance requirements (e.g., APRA, RBA). 

Analytics & Reporting

  • Develop and maintain portfolio-level and customer-level reports across debit cards, savings accounts, and transaction accounts.
  • Conduct RBA data analysis, QMR reporting, and market share assessments.
  • Deliver insights into customer attributes, transaction behaviors, and portfolio performance.
  • Support ad-hoc analysis such as customer segmentation or clustering to deepen understanding of Macquaries retail banking customers. 

Business Engagement

  • Work closely with business stakeholders to translate requirements into data models, dashboards, and curated datasets.
  • Provide guidance on structuring data for reporting and business decision-making.
  • Collaborate with product and portfolio managers to ensure analytics aligns with strategic priorities.
  • Act as a bridge between business and technology teams, enabling data-driven decisions.

Key Skills & Experience

Technical Skills

  • Strong SQL skills with experience in building pipelines and data models.
  • Hands-on experience with data visualization & BI tools ThoughtSpot or Tableau preferred
  • Knowledge of data modelling techniques and best practices.
  • Exposure to large datasets and financial/banking data environments. 

Analytics Skills

  • Experience in portfolio reporting (QMR, debit card statistics, RBA analysis).
  • Ability to perform customer-level analysis (segmentation, profiling, transaction behaviors).
  • Experience in curation of datasets for self-service analytics. 

Business & Soft Skills

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills able to guide business users on requirements.
  • Ability to translate business questions into structured analytics solutions.
  • Collaborative and proactive, with a problem-solving mindset.

Desirable

  • Banking / Financial Services experience (especially debit, savings, and transaction accounts). 
  • Familiarity with customer attributes and behavior analytics in retail banking. 
  • Knowledge of APRA/RBA reporting requirements. 
  • Experience in data governance, quality, and compliance.
