Job Title: Design/Civil Engineer
Package: up to 55K + car allowance + bonus
Department: Commercial / Technical
Reports to: Commercial Manager / Engineering Manager
Position Summary
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in managing project costs, engineering designs, procurement, and site support. You will liaise with internal departments, external consultants, and sub-contractors to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial Responsibilities

Prepare and issue tender and enquiry packs to sub-contractors.

Analyze return tenders and prepare comparison sheets; negotiate contracts to ensure specification compliance and cost efficiency.

Create detailed cost breakdowns including infrastructure costs.

Administer sub-contractor accounts from initial order through to final account settlement.

Maintain internal valuation records and issue variation orders and contra charges.

Conduct monthly site visits, cost valuations, and financial reconciliations (CVRs).

Monitor and manage Cost of Sales and re-budgets.

Ensure compliance with company procedures, policies, and SMAS certifications.

Mentor and assist Trainee Surveyors as required.
Engineering Responsibilities

Oversee the production and coordination of engineering designs for residential developments.

Liaise with and manage external consultants to produce compliant designs.

Ensure designs comply with Section 38, 104, and 278 agreements and other regulatory standards.

Utilize design software such as PDS, MicroDrainage, AutoCAD, and AutoCAD Track.

Provide technical support and documentation, including SWMP plans, Carriers Matrix, and infrastructure schedules.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
-
HNC in Civil Engineering or equivalent.

Experience with a house builder or engineering consultancy.

Proficient in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite, and engineering design software (PDS, MicroDrainage).

In-depth understanding of construction standards, sewer adoption, and highway design.
Desirable:

Experience in both commercial surveying and civil engineering disciplines.

Knowledge of building regulations including Parts H and M, BS8301.

Familiarity with valuation and project cost systems.
