Production Team Leader

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Cell Leader to manage a team responsible for producing complex mechanical and electro-mechanical sub-assemblies.

This is a hands-on leadership position covering production performance, people management, quality, health and safety, and continuous improvement. You will be a confident and approachable leader who can motivate a sizeable production team, address operational and people-related issues, and maintain high standards of safety, quality and delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach and manage a manufacturing team of more than 20 employees.
  • Plan and allocate daily workloads in line with production priorities.
  • Monitor KPIs, productivity, shortages, quality and delivery performance.
  • Investigate performance issues and implement improvement actions.
  • Ensure compliance with SOPs, work instructions and production standards.
  • Manage absence, appraisals, training, performance and employee relations.
  • Maintain training plans and team skills matrices.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety requirements, including COSHH, PUWER and risk assessments.
  • Lead and support 5S and other continuous-improvement activities.
  • Ensure suitable personnel, tools, materials and equipment are available.

Essential Experience

  • Previous experience leading or supervising a manufacturing team.
  • Strong people-management and employee-relations experience.
  • Background in manufacturing, production or engineering.
  • Experience monitoring KPIs and managing competing priorities.
  • Practical problem-solving skills.
  • Good IT skills and experience using SAP or a similar ERP system.
  • Ability to interpret production data, graphs and performance trends.
  • Understanding of mechanical or electro-mechanical assembly processes.

Desirable

  • Management or leadership qualification.
  • Engineering apprenticeship, HNC or HND.
  • Previous hands-on experience as a fitter, machinist, assembler or operator.
  • Knowledge of 5S and continuous-improvement methods.
  • Experience using measuring, inspection or testing equipment.
