Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to join our team on a 12-month contract basis. The successful candidate will provide specialist technical expertise and support in various aspects of systems engineering, including installation, testing, tuning, optimisation, diagnostics, repair, upgrading, and maintenance of both externally and internally supplied hardware and systems software. This role is crucial for ensuring operational efficiency and meeting the business process needs through a variety of technical tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, test, tune, optimise, diagnose, repair, upgrade, and maintain hardware and systems software, including operating systems, data management products, office automation products, and embedded systems.
  • Inspect malfunctioning computer hardware, software, and/or components to analyse causes and plan repair procedures.
  • Recommend solutions through investigating service problems and support business processes with technical tasks related to computers and equipment.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation for systems software products and operational documents.
  • Approve and recommend actions, identify and prioritize issues for resolution.
  • Adhere to organisational processes and ensure standards are implemented and applied during design reviews or new designs.
  • Facilitate decision-making and technical reviews, ensuring effective disaster recovery (DR) procedures.
  • Conduct root cause and trend analysis to provide sustainable solutions for incidents.
  • Participate in a diverse team, sharing knowledge and contributing to team success.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and systems across domains.
  • Liaise with vendors to meet problem management needs and build strong professional relationships.
  • Understand client needs and provide accurate reporting to stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior staff through peer reviews and technical guidance.
  • Plan and recommend tuning for system hardware and software, monitoring system efficiency against SLAs.
  • Ensure accurate time capturing and project cost recovery.
  • Oversee end-to-end project delivery.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10 years exposure to an IT environment with at least 8 years of experience in Systems Engineering.
  • DELL and HP Hosts VMWare Skills and specialist experience on ESXi v7 and ESXi v8 Skilled in using tools to manage VMWare, DELL and HP infrastructure being: DELL OpenManage VMWare vRealise and Skyline HPE Cloud Physics and HPE OneView Dell Secure Connect gateway
  • Proven expertise in installing, configuring, and maintaining various hardware and software systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a track record of diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues.
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills.
  • Experience with disaster recovery planning and execution.
  • Ability to work effectively in a hybrid work environment and collaborate with a diverse team.
  • Demonstrated ability to build professional relationships and understand client needs.
  • Experience in mentoring and providing technical guidance to junior staff.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects while ensuring compliance with SLAs and organisational standards.
