Senior File Transfer Engineer – IBM Sterling File Gateway (SFG)
Location: Johannesburg-Hybrid 3 days in the office
Employment Type: 12 Months contract
We are looking for a Senior File Transfer Engineer with strong IBM Sterling File Gateway (SFG) experience to design, implement, support and optimise secure enterprise file transfer solutions.
This role is ideal for an experienced MFT specialist who can take ownership of SFG environments, troubleshoot complex file transfer issues, support trading partners and ensure secure, reliable and compliant data exchange.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement scalable, secure and reliable IBM SFG solutions
- Install, configure, maintain and optimise IBM Sterling File Gateway environments
- Manage trading partner onboarding, profiles, routing channels and document flows
- Configure and troubleshoot protocols including SFTP, AS2, FTP and HTTP
- Monitor file transfer operations and resolve complex production incidents
- Perform root-cause analysis, log analysis and advanced troubleshooting
- Manage certificates, encryption, authentication and access controls
- Integrate SFG with enterprise applications and middleware platforms
- Develop Shell/Python scripts and automation to streamline file transfer processes
- Plan and execute upgrades, patches and migrations
- Perform capacity planning and performance optimisation
- Support audit, reporting and compliance requirements
- Maintain technical documentation and provide mentoring and knowledge transfer
- Collaborate with application teams, business stakeholders and external trading partners
What We're Looking For
- Strong hands-on experience with IBM Sterling File Gateway (SFG)
- Experience with Managed File Transfer (MFT) solutions
- Strong knowledge of SFTP, AS2, FTP, HTTP and secure file transfer protocols
- Experience with partner onboarding, routing channels and document flows
- Strong understanding of networking, firewalls, encryption and security
- Scripting experience with Shell, Python or similar
- Strong troubleshooting and incident management skills
- Experience with system integration and enterprise applications
- Understanding of audit, compliance and data protection requirements
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work independently and lead technical initiatives
