A hands-on HR Generalist role supporting a growing cannabis business with day-to-day HR operations across onboarding, employee records, recruiting coordination, timekeeping/payroll support, benefits support, and compliance tracking. This role is ideal for someone organized, people-focused, and comfortable managing multiple HR workstreams in a fast-paced environment.

Objectives of this role:

  • Maintain compliant, organized HR operations (documentation, onboarding/offboarding, employee records)
  • Support smooth timekeeping/payroll and benefits coordination through accurate tracking and follow-through
  • Improve hiring execution through structured recruiting and ATS management
  • Strengthen employee support and manager collaboration through clear communication and timely issue resolution
  • Keep training/compliance requirements tracked and completed on schedule

Responsibilities:

  • Manage onboarding and offboarding workflows (checklists, documentation, HRIS updates, coordination with managers)
  • Maintain accurate employee records in HRIS and ensure documentation is complete and organized
  • Support recruiting operations: job postings, candidate coordination, ATS upkeep, interview scheduling, and offer/onboarding preparation
  • Support timekeeping and payroll processes (timecard monitoring, issue resolution, coordination with payroll providers)
  • Assist with benefits administration support (enrollments, changes, basic employee questions, vendor coordination)
  • Handle day-to-day employee relations support: questions, policy guidance, documentation, and escalation as needed
  • Track and coordinate training/compliance requirements (including required acknowledgements and renewals)
  • Maintain HR trackers, reporting, and process documentation to ensure consistency

Required skills and qualifications:

  • Well-rounded HR experience across multiple functions (onboarding, payroll support, benefits support, recruiting, employee relations)
  • Strong attention to detail and organization (documentation, compliance tracking, multitasking)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (employee support + manager collaboration)
  • Strong problem-solving and adaptability in a fast-paced environment
  • Working knowledge of employment laws and HR compliance (California experience is a plus)

Tools/systems experience:

  • HRIS systems (employee records, onboarding/offboarding)
  • Timekeeping and payroll systems
  • ATS platforms
  • Benefits administration platforms
  • Training/compliance tracking tools
  • Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace

Preferred skills and qualifications

  • Experience supporting multi-location hourly workforces
  • California HR compliance experience (wage/hour, leave, documentation best practices)
  • Experience in regulated industries (cannabis, alcohol, healthcare, or similarly compliance-heavy environments)
  • Experience improving HR workflows (SOPs, checklists, templates, dashboards)
