About the job PH - Structural Engineer

Location: Work from Home

Type of Employment: Full-time

Work Shift: USA Business Hours

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled Structural Engineer fluent in Metal Structures and Wood Frame Structures for Residential and Commercial Real Estate projects. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in structural engineering, particularly in designing steel and wood frame structures for the real estate industry.

Responsibilities:

  1. Design a new 14 ft x 24 ft steel frame:

    • Carry a 15K - 20K lbs modular housing structure from factory to foundation on a flat-bed truck.
    • Ensure the frame withstands the stress of 2-point loading (spanning 24ft) within 1-inch deflection at mid-point during the lift procedure from 6 inches above floor to truck bed height of 32 inches above grade via a tilt-bed truck.
    • Ensure the frame withstands loading at the factory to unloading to foundation in the field (32 inches above grade to 20 inches above grade).
    • Design a steel frame structure that is lightweight and easy to fabricate, requiring less than 30 man-hours (of cutting, drilling, welding, etc.).
  2. F40 - Strengthen existing 12 ft x 40 ft steel chassis design:

    • Re-engineer existing steel frame chassis structures to reduce deflection at midpoint during the lift procedure.
    • Address current deflection issues that cause damage to the finished interiors of the residential unit (drywall cracking, buckling).
  3. 14x24 Foundation - with PE Seal:

    • Design and seal (if possible) reinforced concrete strip pier foundations for 14 ft x 24 ft modular housing units.
    • Utilize examples of existing 12 ft x 40 ft foundations as references.
  4. 14x24 First & Second Story:

    • Provide structural/architectural construction details for the first floor (module 1) to support the second floor (module 2).
    • Ensure modules are constructed in the modular building factory, shipped to the site, and the second floor is lifted by crane to sit upon the first floor module.
  5. R32 Gable Roof Design:

    • Develop structural design details for a gable roof with a peak at midpoint (longitudinally) that supports all live and static loads when mounted on the foundation and withstands transitory stresses during the loading/unloading process and shipping across highways in Texas.
  6. R32 Pop-up Roof Structural:

    • Create modular roof and side wall elements that allow transporting modular units with the roof element laying flat with a maximum package height of 12 ft (grade to highest point) and be able to lift the roof elements into place on a pivot to full height (height to be designed) in the field.
    • Ensure finish construction fixes the structure into place, weatherproofs and seals, and completes the finish-out of the final unit (unit will be strapped to the foundation - not to be moved again).
  7. Top Deck Weatherproofing System:

    • Create the proper structural and architectural details required for a rooftop deck above the modular housing that is weather-tight and low maintenance.

Ideal Candidate Requirements:

Primary Experience:

  • Structural Engineer:
    • Professional Engineer
    • Has direct work experience in Structural Engineering for a USA-based Client.
    • Experience in completing structural designs for both steel and wood frame structures in the real estate industry.
    • Access to necessary tools to perform load calculations for all types of materials.
    • Ability to translate designs into layman's terms, detailed specifications, and resulting plans for metal fabrication.
    • Direct work experience with USA firms preparing design submittals for construction preferably in Texas.

Secondary Experience:

  • Architectural Engineering:
    • Familiarity with USA residential and commercial housing projects.
    • Ability to read, revise, and publish architectural plans.
    • Has experience working as an architect or for a USA-based architect.

Benefits:

  • Permanent work from home
  • Ongoing training and professional development opportunities
  • Collaborative and supportive work environment
  • Competitive salary
