Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Structural Engineer with a strong background in both metal and wood frame structures for modular residential and commercial projects. This role focuses on structural design and analysis for factory-built housing units and their foundations, with a preference for candidates who have supported Texas-based construction standards.

Key Responsibilities

Steel Frame Design

  • Design a 14 ft x 24 ft steel frame to support 15K20K lbs modular structures for transport and lifting

  • Ensure frame meets deflection requirements under 2-point loading during tilt-bed lift procedures

  • Engineer for efficient fabricationrequiring no more than 30 man-hours (cutting, welding, drilling, etc.)

Chassis Reinforcement

  • Strengthen existing 12 ft x 40 ft steel chassis to minimize deflection during lifts and reduce interior damage risks (e.g., drywall cracks, warping)

Foundation Design (with PE Seal Preferred)

  • Design reinforced concrete pier foundations for 14x24 modular units

  • Reference prior 12x40 foundations and ensure code compliance and structural stability

Modular Floor & Roof Systems

  • Develop structural/architectural details for stacking first and second-story modules

  • Design a gable roof system (R32) for transport and final install

  • Create pop-up roof structures for units that fold for transport (12 ft total height), then pivot and lock in place during on-site installation

Roof Decking & Weatherproofing

  • Engineer a low-maintenance, watertight rooftop deck system suitable for long-term residential use

Qualifications and Skills

Primary Requirements (Structural Engineering):

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to provide sealed drawings (preferred)

  • At least 3+ years of experience in U.S.-based structural design, preferably for modular or prefab housing

  • Strong knowledge of steel and wood frame structural systems

  • Proficient in load calculations, stress analysis, and design documentation

  • Familiarity with Texas building codes and U.S. construction submittals

  • Ability to communicate complex designs in laymans terms for manufacturers and clients

Secondary Requirements (Architectural/Design):

  • Familiarity with U.S. residential and commercial architecture

  • Experience in reading and drafting construction documents using CAD, AutoCAD, Revit, or similar tools

  • Strong collaboration skills with architects, contractors, and design teams

Additional Requirements
