Job Description

As Railway Project Director for a major railway project, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of a railway project, from conception to completion.

The role requires strong leadership, strategic thinking, project management skills, and in-depth knowledge of the railway industry.

The Railway Project Director plays a critical role in shaping the success of railway projects by providing strategic leadership, effective management, and a commitment to delivering high-quality results within the established parameters.

The role holder will be accountable for ensuring the successful delivery of the project on time, within budget, and in accordance with quality and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Project Planning and Strategy
  2. Develop a comprehensive project plan, including timelines, milestones, and resource allocation.
  3. Define the project's scope, objectives, and goals in alignment with the overall company strategy.
  4. Team Leadership and Management
  5. Build, lead, and manage a multidisciplinary project team, including engineers, planners, construction managers, and other stakeholders.
  6. Foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment, promoting effective communication and knowledge sharing.
  7. Budget and Resource Management
  8. Manage project budgets, ensuring efficient resource allocation and cost control throughout the project lifecycle.
  9. Identify and address potential budgetary constraints or risks and implement corrective measures as needed.
  10. Stakeholder Engagement
  11. Establish and maintain strong relationships with project stakeholders, including government agencies, contractors, suppliers, and local communities.
  12. Communicate project updates, progress, and challenges to stakeholders in a transparent and timely manner.
  13. Risk Management
  14. Identify potential risks and challenges that may impact project delivery and develop risk mitigation strategies.
  15. Monitor and address project risks throughout the lifecycle, adjusting strategies as necessary.
  16. Quality Assurance and Compliance
  17. Ensure that all project activities adhere to relevant quality standards, regulations, and safety protocols.
  18. Implement quality control processes to verify that project deliverables meet established criteria.
  19. Project Execution and Monitoring
  20. Oversee the execution of project activities, tracking progress against milestones and objectives.
  21. Implement effective project management methodologies to ensure tasks are completed on time and in accordance with the project plan.
  22. Reporting and Documentation
  23. Prepare and present regular project status reports to senior management and stakeholders.
  24. Maintain accurate project documentation, including plans, schedules, budgets, and correspondence.
  25. Continuous Improvement
  26. Identify opportunities for process improvement and innovation within the project and implement best practices.
  27. Foster a culture of continuous learning and development within the project team.

Qualifications and Requirements

  1. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  2. Proven experience (typically 15+ years) in managing major railway projects, including planning, execution, and delivery.
  3. Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse team.
  4. Exceptional communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  5. In-depth understanding of railway systems, infrastructure, and regulations.
  6. Proficiency in project management software and tools.
  7. Knowledge of risk management and quality assurance practices.
  8. Problem-solving skills and the ability to make informed decisions under pressure.
  9. PMP or other relevant project management certifications (optional but advantageous).
