Requirements Management Engineer

The Scope of the Role

To support a number of projects across the business, most notably our local and international clients. The post holder will work with the project teams to ensure that:

  • There is sufficient elicitation of the requirements,
  • The requirements that are set are complete.
  • The requirements are traceable,
  • The verification and validation activities have been identified consistently and are traceable to the requirements.
  • The requirements-driven design & delivery is at the forefront of decision-making.
  • Requirements Engineering deliverables are complete and supporting the project to achieve the strategic milestone(s).

Using the DOORS requirements management software, the Requirements Engineer will manage changes to the requirements set over the lifecycle of the projects.

Key Responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for:

  • Embedded in all the project meetings, internal and external design meetings, risk reviews, RAIDDO reviews, HAZARD issues etc.
  • Capturing, developing and managing project requirements in the Rational DOORS requirements database and supporting the integration with Active Risk Manager (ARM).
  • Leading workshops on requirement capture and definition.
  • Assisting in the update of RAIDDO, ensuring that changes and gaps are effectively managed and communicated.
  • Implementing lessons learnt from other railway projects.
  • Supporting a joined-up approach & process to change control

Knowledge

  • Essential: A clear understanding of elicitation, decomposition, and traceability methodologies appropriate to the management of requirement hierarchies
  • Essential: An awareness of the role of good acceptance criteria in the definition of verifiable requirements.
  • Desirable: Good understanding of general systems engineering principles and their relationship to requirements management.

Skills

  • Essential: Ability to elicit system needs from diverse stakeholder groups and translate them into formal clear, coherent and verifiable requirements.
  • Essential: Ability to work as part of a project delivery team to refine and manage requirements, acceptance criteria and traceability.
  • Desirable: Ability to develop key requirements related products including system requirements specifications and requirements management plans.
  • Desirable: Ability to assess the impact of change through requirement tracing.
  • Desirable: Ability to resolve and negotiate requirements conflicts and establish acceptance criteria for inter-connected requirements.
  • Desirable: Ability to assess the verification and validation of requirements, assembling evidence in support of verification submissions.

Experience

  • Essential: Experience of eliciting stakeholder requirements and managing requirement sets through the full project lifecycle on a major project or several smaller projects.
  • Essential: Extensive experience using IBM DOORS to create and manage requirements for projects.
  • Desirable: Experience of applying the outcomes of requirements analysis through design, test and commissioning stages
