A Railway MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) Design Manager is a critical role within a railway infrastructure project responsible for overseeing the MEP design aspects of the project. The MEP Design Manager will play a crucial role in ensuring that railway infrastructure projects are designed to meet high-quality standards, safety requirements, and operational efficiency.   • Hybrid - Must be willing to travel internationally, including flights, hotel and expenses paid.
  • Day rate - Outside IR35 depending on experience.

Job Summary

The Railway MEP Design Manager is responsible for leading and managing the Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing design aspects of railway infrastructure projects. This role involves ensuring that all MEP systems are designed to meet project requirements, safety standards, and regulatory compliance. The Railway MEP Design Manager will collaborate with cross-functional teams, engineers, and stakeholders to achieve successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Design Management:
  2. Lead and manage the MEP design phase of railway projects from concept to completion.
  3. Oversee the development of MEP design documents, including drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical reports.
  4. Ensure that MEP designs are in accordance with project specifications, industry standards, and applicable codes and regulations.
  5. Technical Expertise
  6. Provide technical guidance and expertise in MEP systems, including HVAC, electrical systems, plumbing, fire protection, and other related systems.
  7. Review and approve design changes, value engineering proposals, and technical submittals.
  8. Resolve technical issues and challenges during the design phase.
  9. Team Leadership:
  10. Manage a team of MEP engineers and designers, assigning tasks and responsibilities.
  11. Foster a collaborative work environment and ensure effective communication within the team.
  12. Mentor and train team members to enhance their technical skills.
  13. Coordination and Collaboration
  14. Collaborate with other departments, including civil engineering, structural engineering, and architecture, to ensure seamless integration of MEP systems into the overall railway project.
  15. Coordinate with external consultants, contractors, and suppliers to ensure the delivery of high-quality MEP designs.
  16. Quality Assurance
  17. Implement quality control processes to review and assess the accuracy and completeness of MEP design deliverables.
  18. Conduct design reviews and inspections to identify and address any design-related issues.
  19. Budget and Schedule Management
  20. Monitor and control the MEP design budget to ensure that the project stays within budget constraints.
  21. Develop and maintain project schedules, ensuring MEP design milestones are met.
  22. Regulatory Compliance
  23. Stay updated on relevant codes, standards, and regulations related to railway MEP systems.
  24. Ensure that all MEP designs comply with safety and environmental regulations.
  25. Risk Management:
  26. Identify potential risks related to MEP design and develop mitigation plans.
  27. Take proactive measures to minimize design-related risks that could impact project timelines and budgets.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering (with a focus on railway systems).
  2. Professional engineering license (PE) preferred.
  3. A minimum of 15 years of experience in MEP design, particularly in railway or transportation projects.
  4. Strong project management skills.
  5. Proficiency in MEP design software and tools.
  6. Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
  7. Knowledge of railway safety standards and regulations.
