Job Summary

The Railway SCADA Design Manager is responsible for overseeing the design and implementation of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems for railway operations. This role involves managing a team of engineers and technicians, ensuring the effective utilization of SCADA technology to enhance railway safety, efficiency, and reliability.

A Railway SCADA Design Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of railway systems by designing and maintaining state-of-the-art SCADA systems. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, project management acumen, and a commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards in railway operations.

  • Hybrid - Must be willing to travel internationally, including flights, hotel and expenses paid.
  • Day rate - Outside IR35 depending on experience.
  • Contract - 2 years

Key Responsibilities

SCADA System Design:

  • Lead the design and architecture of SCADA systems tailored to the specific needs of railway operations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system requirements, hardware and software specifications, and integration plans.
  • Develop and review detailed design documentation, including schematics, diagrams, and technical specifications.

Project Management

  • Plan, organize, and oversee SCADA projects from concept to completion, ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets.
  • Coordinate with project stakeholders, including railway operators, engineers, and contractors, to ensure successful project execution.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks and issues proactively.

Team Leadership

  • Supervise a team of SCADA engineers and technicians, providing guidance, mentorship, and performance feedback.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment that encourages professional growth and development.

Technical Expertise:

  • Stay current with advancements in SCADA technology and railway industry standards.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies and methodologies that can enhance railway SCADA systems.

Quality Assurance and Testing

  • Develop and implement testing procedures to verify the functionality, reliability, and security of SCADA systems.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements.

Vendor Management

  • Collaborate with SCADA system vendors to procure necessary hardware and software components.
  • Evaluate vendor proposals and negotiate contracts to obtain cost-effective solutions.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of SCADA system designs, configurations, and project records.
  • Prepare regular progress reports and presentations for project stakeholders.

Emergency Response

  • Develop and implement emergency response protocols for SCADA systems to ensure railway safety and security.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.

A minimum 15 years of experience in SCADA system design, preferably in railway or transportation systems.

Strong project management skills and experience leading cross-functional teams.

Proficiency in SCADA software, protocols, and hardware components.

Knowledge of railway operations, safety regulations, and industry standards.

Excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.

Ability to work under pressure and handle emergency situations effectively.

Certifications in SCADA and relevant railway systems are a plus.
