Location: Schaumburg, Illinois. This is a hybrid leadership role. During the approximately 13-week busy season, the position is fully in office. Outside busy season, the typical schedule is four days in office and one remote day, contingent on meeting individual billable-hour goals.

Note: A current CPA license, 5+ years of public accounting tax experience, and strong client-facing communication skills are required. Candidates must have experience working in a CPA firm environment.

Job Description

  • Lead complex individual, corporate, partnership, and trust tax engagements from planning through final review
  • Provide proactive tax planning, research, consulting, and strategic guidance to clients
  • Review complex tax returns and ensure accuracy, compliance, quality, and timely delivery
  • Manage and mentor tax professionals while overseeing workflow, performance, and technical standards
  • Build trusted relationships with existing clients and identify opportunities to expand services
  • Research complex federal, state, and local tax matters and communicate practical recommendations
  • Monitor evolving tax laws and regulations and help ensure the firm remains technically current
  • Collaborate with firm leadership on practice strategy, operational improvements, and growth initiatives
  • Participate in business development, professional networking, and client relationship expansion
  • Manage competing priorities effectively during busy season while maintaining high professional standards

Qualifications

  • Active CPA license required
  • 5+ years of directly relevant public accounting tax experience
  • Current or recent CPA firm experience required
  • Strong knowledge of individual, corporate, partnership, and trust taxation
  • Experience with tax planning, compliance, technical review, and tax research
  • Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, or team management experience
  • Excellent written, verbal, and client-facing communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple engagements and deadlines
  • Proficiency with professional tax software, accounting tools, Microsoft Excel, and related technology
  • Advanced degree in taxation, accounting, or a related discipline preferred
  • Business development and professional networking experience preferred
