Job Description

  • Own the company's daily financial operations — accounting, AP/AR, payroll coordination, and cash management — with full accountability for accuracy, timeliness, and GAAP compliance
  • Lead the monthly close process across all business units, maintaining rigorous internal controls and adherence to financial policies
  • Manage project-level financial tracking including job cost reporting, WIP analysis, and percent-complete accounting; partner with project managers to ensure financial data reflects field reality
  • Develop and maintain dashboards and reporting tools that give operational leaders real-time visibility into project financial performance, gross margins, and cash flow
  • Lead the annual budgeting process across all business units and maintain rolling forecasts and scenario analyses that keep leadership ahead of changing conditions
  • Produce accurate, timely financial reports for the President, CFO, and executive team — P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, and project-level summaries
  • Support project teams in understanding the financial implications of change orders, claims, and closeout activity
  • Champion continuous improvement of financial systems, ERP optimization, and reporting infrastructure with an eye toward scalability at $1B+ in revenue
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance and accounting team; build a culture of accountability, growth, and financial literacy across the organization

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience; 3+ years in a senior finance leadership role
  • 2+ years of direct construction accounting experience — WIP accounting, job cost tracking, and bonding familiarity are essential
  • Proven track record managing financial operations for a company in the $200M–$1B revenue range
  • Strong command of GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance requirements
  • Experience leading multi-entity budgeting, forecasting, and financial consolidation
  • Proficiency with construction ERP platforms (Viewpoint, Sage, CMiC, or equivalent)
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field required; CPA preferred
  • Must be based in Iowa or willing to relocate; relocation assistance is available

Why You'll Love Working Here

This is a company where the VP of Finance is a true operational partner — not a compliance function tucked in the back office. You'll sit at the table with the President and CFO, earn the trust of project teams by speaking their language, and build something that lasts. The culture here is consistently described as more flexible and collaborative than anywhere else people have worked — supportive, accountable, and focused on long-term growth for both the company and the people in it. If you want to lead something meaningful at scale, this is the role.
