Location

This is an on-site position based in Houston, TX, offering the opportunity to work closely with attorneys, legal assistants, and support staff in a collaborative office environment.

Note

Must have experienced litigation paralegal experience, including discovery, court filings, calendaring, pleadings, and case management. Federal and state court filing experience is strongly preferred.

Job Description

  • Support attorneys with substantive litigation tasks, including discovery, pleadings, legal documents, trial preparation, mediation preparation, and settlement support
  • Review legal assistant work for accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with federal, state, local, and judge-specific rules
  • Ensure federal and state court ECF notices are reviewed, calendared, and handled properly
  • Assist with case deadlines, trial calendars, attorney needs, and resource coordination
  • Train legal assistants and support staff on wage and hour case protocols and case management procedures
  • Coordinate with attorneys on discovery, client communications, case strategy, and litigation deadlines
  • Update and maintain matter plans, case tabs, filing fees, service status, appearances, and docketing information in Litify and related systems
  • Confirm service is scheduled, completed, and filed with the court
  • Send FOIA requests and state law equivalent requests when needed
  • Draft discovery shells based on attorney instructions and case-specific templates
  • Review protective orders, local rules, and written discovery limitations
  • Serve discovery and calendar response deadlines
  • Review incoming discovery responses, identify deficiencies, index documents, and summarize findings for attorneys
  • Prepare working drafts of discovery responses, finalize responses after attorney review, Bates stamp productions, and serve opposing counsel
  • Prepare deposition notice drafts, obtain client availability, schedule travel, coordinate court reporters and videographers, and save transcripts
  • Support mediation preparation by tracking mediation packets, deadlines, payments, and required data
  • Maintain trial folders, draft exhibit lists and witness lists, prepare attorney trial binders and exhibit binders, and help clients understand trial obligations
  • Track settlements in Litify, capture case expenses, calendar settlement deadlines, and obtain signatures on settlement agreements and tax forms
  • Assist with matter closings by confirming settlement funds, court closure, and proper case resolution steps

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of litigation paralegal experience preferred
  • Experience with federal and state court filings, ECF notices, court rules, calendaring, and litigation deadlines
  • Strong discovery experience, including drafting shells, organizing responses, tracking deficiencies, Bates stamping, and serving productions
  • Experience supporting pleadings, depositions, mediation, trial preparation, settlement, and matter closing
  • Ability to review legal assistant work and help guide support staff
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, deadline management, and communication skills
  • Experience with Litify, Docketbird, wage and hour litigation, employment litigation, class actions, or collective actions is a plus
  • Must be comfortable working on-site in a fast-paced litigation environment
