About the job Experimental Scientist

Experimental Scientist

Location: Jerusalem

Type: Full-time

Reports To: R&D Manager

Company Overview

The Company is an innovative growth company in the field of silicon photonics packaging, solving one of the key challenges in enabling next-generation co-packaged optics solutions for AI infrastructure, Data Centers, and High-Performance Computing. Our multidisciplinary team combines optics, and packaging expertise to bring cutting-edge technologies from concept to scalable production.

Role Overview

We are seeking a hands-on, creative, and analytical Experimental Scientist to join our multidisciplinary R&D team. The ideal candidate thrives in a dynamic environment, enjoys solving complex problems, and is passionate about transforming experimental insights into real-world technological advances. This role requires deep scientific curiosity, precision, and a can-do approach to experimental design — along with strong collaborative skills and the ability to mobilize people and teams toward shared objectives in a metrics-driven environment.

What You Will Be Doing

Design, plan, and execute complex optical and physical experiments to validate and optimize novel packaging processes and photonic assemblies.

Conduct system diagnostics, troubleshooting, and problem-solving: tasks include root-cause analysis, mitigation plans, implementing robust system calibration methods, and product transfer to manufacturing.

Develop and implement experimental setups, measurement techniques, and data analysis methods.

Collaborate closely with engineers and scientists across optics, materials, and semiconductor domains to translate findings into design and process improvements.

Lead or coordinate small cross-functional task forces to address key R&D and process challenges.

Analyze data, define KPIs, and track progress in a metrics-driven experimental environment to ensure measurable improvements.

Operate and maintain laboratory instruments and optical test systems.

Document experimental procedures, results, and conclusions clearly and systematically.

Work effectively under tight deadlines in a fast-evolving startup environment.

What We Need to See

7+ years of hands-on experience in experimental research and system engineering preferably in optics, photonics, or semiconductor-related fields.

Advanced degree — M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Physics or related discipline (Optics, Applied Physics, or Materials Science).

Strong experimental and analytical skills with a systematic, methodical approach.

Proven experience designing, conducting, and interpreting complex physical or optical experiments.

Exceptional interpersonal and collaborative skills, with the ability to influence, motivate, and align cross-functional teams.

Demonstrated experience working effectively in a metrics- and results-oriented environment.

Excellent problem-solving abilities and a can-do, solution-oriented mindset.

Strong communication and documentation skills.

Comfort working in a multidisciplinary and dynamic environment under tight timelines.

Ways to Stand Out

Hands-on experience with fiber optics, optical coupling, or photonic packaging.

Familiarity with semiconductor processes, precision alignment, or micro-optical assembly.

Proven ability to drive team performance using data, metrics, and well-defined goals.

Experience in startups or fast-paced innovation environments.

Practical experience with optical simulation, automation, or data analysis tools (e.g., Zemax, MATLAB, Python).
