MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & experience;

  • Degree in Chemical or Industrial Engineering;
  • Business Management qualification will be advantageous;
  • 10 years relevant experience;
  • Language Proficiency: Portuguese and English.

PURPOSE:

  • Plan daily, weekly & monthly operations of the Company production facilities to ensure that financial targets and operational standards of the facilities are met;
  • This include operations in the Provinces;
  • Lead the management team and provide direction to ensure effective management of the operational staff;
  • Drive cost effective operations through control of operating expenses and implementing cost savings initiatives.

Key outputs to be achieved by the role: 

  • Plan, organize, control day-to-day operations in Company, to achieve production targets, product quality and on-time shipping;
  • Collect and analyse production data to identify areas of waste and to ensure optimized productivity levels;
  • Ensure plant safety procedures and company policies are followed and adhered to at all times.

Planning cycle: 

  • Daily planning with Production, Maintenance , Human Resources, and Supply Chain departments;
  • Monthly planning of Production programme with management team;
  • Monthly reporting to Operations Manager.

Level of authority: 

  • Make decisions to maintain the Company Factory and Provinces effectively;
  • Recommend decisions to the Operations Manager;    
  • Implement the tasks for Factory Manager as mentioned in the authorization matrix.

Major challenges: 

  • To put mechanism in place to ensure production facilities operate in line with global standards;
  • To manage the facilities within the constraints of the budget allocated;
  • Hands on to ensure flow of knowledge and Development of Multi Skilled Workforce;
  • Coaching and training of staff to perform to an optimum level due to skills shortages.

  • Knowledge of business and management principles (budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation and human resources);
  • Knowledge of industry equipment and technical expertise;
  • Knowledge of safety, quality, productivity, demand creation and inventory processes.

Working conditions: 

  • 5 day week;
  • This is a continuous 24/7 milling operation, thus availability and willingness to be contacted outside of normal working hours is critical; 
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment that involves exposure to dust, long periods of standing;
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs, bend and move to inspect equipment;
  • Occasional Travel.
